Commissioned to draw the new 2022 United Commonwealth Society badge. A sharp, high quality image was needed for the Society’s brand refresh.

The elements within the diamond lozenge, clockwise from the top: Canadian maple leaf; historic sailing ship representing the island nations in the Oceania and Pacific; New Zealand Southern Cross; palm tree representing the island nations in Oceania and the Pacific; quartered stylised section of the Union Jack; historic sailing ship representing the island nations of the Atlantic and West Indies; Australian Commonwealth Star; palm tree representing the island nations of the Atlantic and West Indies; and finally in the centre the spears and globe of the Commonwealth flag.

Continuing the Wigan theme, I've used creative licence here and have taken the liberty to give the shield a coloured background.

The original blazon does not mention a field colour and so I have chosen the Wigan Corporations cherry red as the base. It really sets off the gold crown and shield outline.

Here is my second interpretation of the shield of Wigan from the County Borough Coat of arms.

The castle and crown devices are mentioned in ancient descriptions of seals associated with Wigan.
