2026 will be defined by exponential change.
AI is advancing at such a pace that many businesses are now asking a critical question: have we already fallen behind—and how do we catch up?

The answer is not to panic, but to act with intent.

The real advantage will sit with two groups. Smaller businesses can use AI to extend limited resources and do more with lean teams, while larger organisations can leverage their scale to retrain and upskill staff at pace. In both cases, success comes from adopting AI deliberately, not reactively.

Successful AI adoption starts with understanding where you are today. Many individuals are already seeing the benefits of AI in their daily work, but for businesses to realise real value, everyone needs to be pulling in the same direction.

Consistency matters.
With innovation, comes risk.
Are your staff aware that uploading documents to unmanaged AI tools or cloud services could expose sensitive or regulated data?
Without clear guidance, well‑intentioned experimentation can quickly turn into a governance issue.
Providing staff with clear direction on which AI tools to use—and encouraging consistent use of those tools—delivers better outcomes, stronger security, and improved governance.

If your organisation is already using the Microsoft 365 platform, you are more than 90% of the way to ensuring your data remains within your organisation.

The foundations for secure, compliant AI adoption are already in place.
To accelerate this further, Microsoft offers Microsoft Frontier, included with a Microsoft Co-pilot licence.

Frontier provides early access to advanced AI capabilities, including the ability to generate automated workflows from simple instructions.
Think of this as an AI agent that can build automations for you—without requiring programming or development skills.

Co-pilot is licensed per user, and for many businesses it is a considered investment. However, when applied correctly, just a handful of automations, efficiency gains, and time savings can quickly outweigh the cost.

🔐 The 3 Critical Attack Surfaces That Need Monitoring

Cyber attacks rarely start with something dramatic.
They start where no one is looking.
For most organisations, risk concentrates across three critical attack surfaces — and if even one isn’t being actively monitored, attackers only need time.

What Should Be Monitored?
1️⃣ Hardware (Laptops & Desktops)
Unpatched devices, missing security controls, or poor visibility turn everyday endpoints into easy entry points.
2️⃣ Network Gateway
Your digital perimeter. If traffic, configuration changes, or anomalies aren’t monitored, threats can slip through unnoticed.
3️⃣ Cloud Apps (e.g. Microsoft 365)
Email, files, identities, and collaboration tools now live in the cloud. Without monitoring, compromised accounts and risky behaviour can go undetected for weeks.

✅ Good IT support doesn’t just fix problems when something breaks.
✅ It continuously monitors these areas to catch issues early — before they become incidents.

The real question:
👉 Does your IT Support have you covered — or are you relying on luck?

Phishing remains the most common entry point for successful cyber attacks, responsible for the majority of breaches because it targets people, not technology.

Phishing emails were once easy to spot because users could rely on visible flaws such as suspicious links, poor grammar, and unusual sender addresses, and simply hovering over a URL or noticing an unprofessional tone was often enough to expose a scam.

AI has removed those clues: links are now hidden behind branded buttons, emails are written in polished, context‑aware language, urgency is calm and reasonable, and messages often arrive at times that align perfectly with real business activity.

As a result, phishing emails no longer stand out — they blend in — making traditional “spot the bad email” advice increasingly ineffective.

At IT LifeRaft our advice is
--Stop Judging Emails by Quality. Good emails and bad emails can look identical.
--Question the Request, Not the Sender. Always pause when an email asks you to a log in to a system or approve or make a payment.
--Be Cautious of “Reasonable” Urgency. Urgency that feels calm and reasonable is still urgency — and should still be verified.
--Don’t Trust Buttons Automatically. If clicking a button leads to a login page, stop. That is a high‑risk moment.
--Verify Requests Using a Second Channel. Call the sender using a known number.
--Never Share Credentials — Ever

Conclusion
You are not expected to detect fake emails — you are expected to verify unusual requests.

Up to 95% of successful cyber attacks start with a phishing email.
One convincing message, one click, and attackers can gain access to accounts, data, or entire systems.

Email remains the easiest way for cyber criminals to target businesses of any size. Weak settings, poor protection, or lack of visibility can leave you exposed without you realising it.

For those businesses using bespoke email, our free email check helps you understand how well your email is protected, what risks exist, and what matters most — all explained in plain English, with no obligation.

Cyber criminals don’t target size — they target weakness.

Most attacks are automated and look for basic gaps like weak passwords, no MFA, unsecured devices, or missing backups.

You don’t need complex security to stay safe. You need the right basics in place.
A simple check can show where your IT stands, what’s missing, and what actually matters — in plain English, with no commitment.

Cyber attacks are no longer rare — they’re a routine risk for businesses of every size.

Most incidents aren’t sophisticated, either. They’re simple mistakes, missed updates, weak passwords, or a single email clicked in a rush.

To help businesses understand where they stand, we have created a free cyber self‑assessment.
It won’t give you every answer, and it’s not a full Cyber Essentials review — but it will highlight the basics and show you where improvements may be needed.

This quick check can help you identify:
--Whether your everyday practices reduce common cyber risks.
--Gaps that could make your business more vulnerable than you realise
--Areas you may want to strengthen before considering Cyber Essentials

If you’re unsure how prepared your business really is, this is an easy first step that takes just a few minutes.

Not every email provider sets up your email security correctly straight out of the box.

And that’s a problem — because when your email isn’t configured properly, cyber‑criminals can spoof your address, pretend to be you, and target your customers, suppliers, or even your own team.

This kind of attack is incredibly common, especially for small businesses. It only takes one missing security record for someone to send convincing fake emails in your name.

Why email spoofing happens
Email authentication isn’t automatic. It relies on a few key technical settings behind the scenes — things like:
--SPF: verifies which servers are allowed to send email for your domain.
--DKIM: validates that your messages haven’t been tampered with.
--DMARC: tells receiving servers what to do if a message fails checks.
If these aren’t set up correctly, your domain is left wide open for abuse.

How do you know if your domain is secure?
You can’t rely on guesswork — and you definitely can’t assume your provider did it for you.

To make this easier, we’ve created a free online email‑security self‑check.
It’s quick, simple, and shows whether your email setup is helping protect your business or leaving you vulnerable.

👉 Check your email setup here:

Did you know that victims of online scams are often targeted again?
Cybercriminals know that if someone fell for a scam once, they might be vulnerable to another—especially if personal data was exposed or there was a financial gain.

This is called “re-targeting”, and it’s a growing trend in the world of cybercrime.

Here is why it happens:
✅ Data Sharing Among Criminals – Once your details are stolen, they’re often sold on the dark web.
✅ Emotional Manipulation – Victims may feel desperate to recover lost funds, making them easy prey for “recovery scams.”
✅ Trust Exploitation – Fraudsters pose as banks, tech support, or even law enforcement to regain trust.

The result?
A vicious cycle where victims lose even more money and confidence.

How to protect yourself:
Report the scam immediately to your bank and Action Fraud.

Change passwords and enable multi-factor authentication on all accounts.
Stay alert for follow-up calls or emails claiming to help you recover your losses.

At IT LifeRaft, the best advice we can give is to do your own due diligence .
Make a connection to trusted IT support in advance of needing to reach out.
It doesn't cost anything to pickup the phone or drop in to your local IT shop, get a name and talk to them. More importantly remember the voice. Knowing the person at the end of the phone will help to put your mind at rest.

When businesses migrate to Microsoft 365, the journey often starts with the basics—Outlook for email, Word for documents, Excel for spreadsheets, and Teams for communication.

These tools are powerful, but they’re just the tip of the iceberg.
Microsoft 365 offers a wealth of apps designed to make your business more efficient, and when combined with AI, the possibilities are game-changing.

At IT LifeRaft, we help businesses go beyond the basics and unlock the full potential of their Microsoft 365 investment.

If you’ve recently migrated, here’s what you need to know about the apps you’re missing and how AI can transform your data into decisions.

Step 1: Explore the Hidden Gems in Microsoft 365
Most businesses stick to the main programs, but Microsoft 365 includes tools that can streamline operations and save time:
-SharePoint – Build a centralized hub for documents and collaboration. Perfect for compliance and team projects.
-Planner – Simple, visual task management for teams. No need for complex project software.
-Power Automate – Automate repetitive tasks like approvals and notifications. Free up hours of manual work.
-Forms – Create quick surveys and collect feedback effortlessly.
-Bookings – Allow customers to schedule appointments online, reducing admin time.
-Power BI – Turn raw data into clear, actionable insights with interactive dashboards.
These apps are already included in your subscription—why not use them to their full potential?

Step 2: Use AI to Interrogate Your Data
Once you’re using these apps, AI becomes the real differentiator. Here’s how:
Microsoft Copilot – Embedded in Word, Excel, and Teams, Copilot drafts documents, summarizes meetings, and analyzes spreadsheets in seconds.

Power BI with AI – Ask natural language questions like “Show me sales trends for Q4” and get instant visual reports.
AI in Power Automate – Intelligent workflows that learn patterns and optimize processes.
Security AI – Microsoft Defender uses AI to detect threats and reduce risk before they impact your business. AI doesn’t just make things faster—it helps you make smarter decisions based on real-time data.

Step 3: Practical Next Steps
Review which apps you’re currently using.
Identify gaps where automation or data insights could save time.
Train your team on these tools to maximise adoption.
Consider expert support for setup and optimization.

IT LifeRaft, we make sure your Microsoft 365 environment works for you—not against you.
Ready to Take the Next Step?
Don’t let your Microsoft 365 investment go underutilised. Explore the apps, embrace AI, and transform the way you work.

I don’t run paid ads. I don’t have any backlinks. So why is Google ranking my site alongside official sources and major brands?
Traditionally, getting a new domain to the top of Page 1 has been tough—unless you’ve got a powerhouse SEO agency behind you. You’re competing against businesses that have spent years building authority.
Fast forward to 2026.
IT LifeRaft has only existed for six months.
Domain Authority: 3
Estimated Visits: 0
Referring Domains: 0
Organic Keywords: 1
Yet here we are—two pages sitting on Google Page 1 for the search term:
“Been Hacked Fix UK.”

What Changed? AI Changed Everything.
-AI Overviews launched in 2024.These summaries now appear at the very top of search results.
-AI prioritises intent-first content—answers that solve the real question behind a query.

Was It Skill or Luck?
Honestly? A bit of both. SEO is still a numbers game.1% of 100 = 1.1% of 10,000 = 100.
I knew I needed high-volume searches to make an impact. So I niched down on “been hacked” and built a page that addressed most issues and resolutions around that topic

I used AI to generate a large portion of the content, then added my own unique insights. Once published, I didn’t think much of it—until the next day.I searched in incognito mode (to avoid skewed results) and couldn’t believe my eyes:
My poorly formatted page was featured in Google’s AI section. I thought I’d broken the internet!
That was back in September. Five months later, the page is still there—right next to the big names.
I even created regional variations like:
“Been hacked fix USA”
“Been hacked fix Cornwall”
“Been hacked fix”
And they’re still holding strong.

Lessons Learned
-Prioritise great content.
-Optimise your site for SEO—even if AI is changing the game.
-Invest in professional design to convert visitors into paying customers.

Hopefully, my experience gives you some insight. I still suspect published dates play a role—but maybe I just got lucky.
