Hi Guys,
Just wanted to ask how many of you are still on Windows XP? Microsoft are laying XP to rest on 8th April this year, after which you will receive no more updates. Now while this might not seem like a bad thing it really is! When some loopholes are found, and they will be, you will be open to attack.
XP was a great Operating system but is is nearly 13 years old and well behind the times.
You can only update to Internet Explorer 8 on XP, the current version is 11 on Windows 7 and 8. You can only use Direct X 9, the current release is also 11.
I would recommend upgrading to Windows 7 or 8. If your computer/laptop is over 5 years old I would recommend just buying a new system.
If you have the money now is a good time while the sales are on.
The minimum specifications you should be looking for is an Intel i3 processor, 4Gb of RAM and a 500gb Hard Drive. This machine should cost you around £300. This is what I would recommend for a low budget everyday machine. This will browse the Internet, run your Office suite and run any other application you can throw at it.
If you are a gamer or are creative with video, images or music you will need something a little more powerful. Go for an i5 processor, 6 - 8Gb RAM and 1Tb hard drive. For video, gaming and graphics you will also want a dedicated graphics card. Look for a Radeon 7770 or a Nvidia GTX 650 Ti minimum. These machines will probably cost between £500 and £750 depending on if you need the graphics grunt.
Good luck in the sales!
