"Can you just print this for me?"

Usually, "just print it" isn't quite as simple as it sounds.
• Wrong size.
• Low-resolution images.
• Fonts missing.
• Artwork set up incorrectly.

That's where things can get expensive.
Good print starts before anything reaches the printer.

Why does your print never quite match what you see on screen?

This usually comes down to one thing: RGB vs CMYK.

When you’re working on a screen, you’re seeing RGB. That stands for Red, Green, Blue.

Screens create colour using light. By mixing different intensities of these three colours, they can produce a wide range of visible colours. This is called additive colour mixing, and when all three combine at full strength, you get white.

The key point is this: screens can show more colours than print can reproduce.

Now printing works differently.

In print, we use CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.

Instead of light, print uses ink. This is subtractive colour mixing, where each layer of ink reduces reflected light from the paper. In theory, combining all inks moves toward black.

So, in simple terms:
RGB is light (screens).
CMYK is ink (print).

Because they work in completely different ways, a colour that looks vibrant on screen may appear more muted when printed. It is not a mistake; it is a limitation of the process.

This is why colour management matters so much in design and print production.

So here is the real question…
Have you ever had something printed that looked completely different to what you expected on screen?

If you’re preparing for an event or reviewing your branding, it’s worth looking at how everything connects.

Not just how each piece looks individually, but how they work together.

Clarity and consistency tend to have a bigger impact than adding more materials or complexity.

I’ve been helping a few businesses with this recently, so if you’re working through something similar, happy to share some thoughts.

One thing that often gets overlooked:

A logo is only the starting point.

What really matters is how it’s applied.

On a banner.
On a leaflet.
On a business card.

That’s where people actually experience your brand.

If those pieces aren’t consistent, the strength of the logo doesn’t carry through.

When they are consistent, everything feels clearer, more credible, and easier to engage with.

That’s usually where the difference is made.

The best logos aren’t just designed for how they look.

They’re designed for how they’ll be used.

Across social platforms.
On printed materials.
In different sizes and formats.

That’s usually where weaker logos start to break down.

They look fine in isolation but don’t quite hold up in real-world use.

When those use cases are considered from the start, everything becomes easier later on.

You’re not adapting the logo to fit; it’s already built to work wherever you need it.
