Online Gaming! (Not a Sales post)
Do you have good privacy measures in place for your child playing online games such as Minecraft, Fortnite or Roblox?
What about their friends? Do they? Can you question other parents?
Of course you can’t but you should always be aware of what your child is playing and more importantly, who their friends are.
A school friend can easily have other “friends”. Friends who could be genuine but also, could have befriended them in an online game due to lack of controls.
This “friend” might not be who you think…
In an article published online:
“Europol and other agencies have targeted terrorist, extremist, and racist content on gaming platforms, reporting thousands of URLs hosting dangerous material. This includes over 5,400 links to religious-extremist content and over 100 links to racist and xenophobic content.
Perpetrators have reenacted attacks in 3D games, edited footage with extremist themes, and shared it online.
Gaming livestream services have been used to recruit minors and broadcast real attacks, violent acts, and suicides.
Analysts suggest that the scale and distribution of flagged URLs indicate a broad and adaptive extremist network across gaming, streaming, and community platforms. This network may allow actors to quickly rebuild channels after takedowns and exploit lightly moderated ecosystems, particularly free-to-play platforms and games with fewer user verification and community safeguards.” #
