I hope you're all enjoying your weekend🍺😎, I had this gaming PC come in as it would randomly reboot in Windows whilst gaming 🤔
The spec is an I9 11900kf cpu, 64gb 3600mhz ddr4 and an rtx4090.
The customer tried a reinstall but no change. First thing I check is the memory, ran a full test, passed with no errors, I then ran Windows up on my usb bootable drive to rule out their ssd and the storage controller, ran a cpu stress test and within a minute the PC rebooted, we're getting somewhere now😎
I upgraded the bios to the latest version which was still running the original from 2021 to update the cpu microcode, the PC would still reboot after a stress test 🤦♂️
Back to the bios to switch off XMP and manually set the ram clock speed back to it's bios default settings of 2133mhz, from here another stress test was ran on the cpu and gpu and it stayed on for over 2 hours 🥳, it's the memory controller failing on the cpu, if I set the clock speed back to 3600mhz it would reboot, bring it back to 3200mhz it was stable.
Swapped out the cpu with a new replacement, enabled XMP and ran another stress test, stayed on for another hour with no reboots🥳
Job done🍺👍
