GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm // Now Available for the Esoteric Grandioso T1

The first Wilson Benesch GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm developed specifically for the Esoteric Grandioso T1 has now been installed in Texas, USA.

Working from engineering data supplied by Esoteric, Wilson Benesch designed a dedicated armboard to integrate the 12-inch GRAVITON® Ti with the Grandioso T1. Following verification of the geometry by Esoteric, the final armboard was precision machined at the Wilson Benesch factory in Sheffield, England. Pasted text

The completed system pairs the GRAVITON® Ti with the Wilson Benesch TESSELLATE® Ti-D Diamond Cartridge and was installed by 3mA Audio in Texas, USA.

The first feedback from its owner, David:
“3MA just installed the GRAVITON Ti tonearm and TESSELLATE Ti-D cartridge, and I am incredibly impressed after my first listening sessions. What you guys have achieved is truly remarkable!! I also want you to know how smoothly everything integrated with the Esoteric turntable. The entire setup came together beautifully. I couldn’t be happier with the result.”

Open day at HIFI Link, near Lyon.
Our French dealer hosted visitors yesterday in the auditorium they built around one idea: l’émotion musicale. A house that has been doing this since 1972.

On demonstration, the Resolution 3Zero, from the Fibonacci Series. Designed and built in Sheffield. Two Isobaric Drive Systems delivering bass, a Tactic 3.0 midrange coupled directly to the amplifier, and the Fibonacci hybrid silk-carbon tweeter at the acoustic centre. Scale, then the disappearing act.

At Falcon House — Wilson Benesch headquarters in Sheffield, England — the foot of the iconic Endeavour 3zero super monitor loudspeaker is finished on high-precision CNC machines. Having hewn the curved form of the loudspeaker foot, the engineer pilots the holes for the footer plates. Those plates take the spikes and handwheels that stabilise the loudspeaker. Edges across the foot are chamfered. The last cut chamfers the Wilson Benesch logo that is machined into the metal — the final detail on this highly engineered, high-performance loudspeaker.

// The last operations: the OMEGA Drive chassis is finished //

The final precision CNC operations on the latest batch of OMEGA Drive chassis.

Hewn from a solid aluminium billet, hundreds of thousands of lines of code and multiple operations later, one OMEGA Drive chassis is finished. This batch will now be prepared and sent for specialist finishing. Twenty-one precision-wound copper coils, a PCB and the stator are then assembled by hand into the chassis. From there it is built into the next GMT One, Prime Meridian and Greenwich turntables, destined for customers across the world.

Visible here: the last chamfer on the edges of the chassis, followed by piloting and threading holes that fix in place the steel stator ring.

// From solid aluminium billet to the heart of the GMT Collection //

Another series of OMEGA Drive chassis is taking shape at the Wilson Benesch factory in Sheffield, England.

What begins as an imposing block of solid aluminium is progressively transformed through precision CNC machining into the highly complex structure seen here. Much of the original material is removed as the radial architecture of the OMEGA Drive emerges — an architecture developed specifically around one of the most fundamental challenges in analogue replay: the precise and controlled rotation of the record.

The OMEGA Drive is not a conventional turntable motor. Measuring 381 mm — 15 inches — in diameter, it is a three-phase, slotless, coreless synchronous direct-drive motor. Twenty-one precision-wound coils interact with fourteen neodymium magnets around its circumference, distributing the driving force across an exceptionally large diameter.

This architecture eliminates the iron cores and slots responsible for cogging in conventional motor designs and allows the drive system to deliver exceptionally smooth rotational torque.

The engineering extends far beyond the motor itself. Once assembled with its coils, stator and spindle, this chassis becomes a substantial 14 kg mechanical structure at the centre of the turntable.

Developed in Sheffield and manufactured here at Wilson Benesch, the OMEGA Drive is the common technological foundation of every turntable in the GMT Collection — from Greenwich and Prime Meridian to the reference GMT One.

These photographs capture an unusually revealing stage of that process: before the finishes, before assembly and before the turntable — when the engineering is still visible in the metal.

Wilson Benesch Omnium + IGx Infrasonic Generator, installed in China by our distribution partner, Purist Audio

The Omnium sits at the heart of the Wilson Benesch Fibonacci Series and brings together more than three decades of research into advanced composite structures, drive-unit technology and loudspeaker design.

It is a combination that has received exceptional recognition internationally.

Reviewing the Omnium with the IGx Infrasonic Generator for The Absolute Sound in the USA, Robert Harley wrote:

“The speaker had an amazing dynamic coherence from top to bottom, giving the impression that it has vanished from the playback chain.”

Harley was particularly impressed by the integration of the IGx:

“To its credit, the IGx exhibited exactly none of the downsides of subwoofers… Rather, the IGx blended with the Omnium absolutely seamlessly, making the entire speaker system sound ‘of a piece’ to a degree I haven’t heard from other four-piece speaker systems. The IGx is very subtle sonically, but the musical effect is profound.”
