Slide 1 - How to use iconography well
Slide 2 - Convention does not equal boring. Do lean on established icon-use conventions, don’t hide functionality behind something unfamiliar
Slide 3 - Keep consistent. Use a consistent set, and regularly review that you haven’t strayed over time too.
Slide 4 - Add contextual labels. If there’s any ambiguity, accompany icons with text labels.
Slide 5 - Remember accessibility. Similarly; design for accessibility, remember screenreaders and consider using hidden labels.
Slide 6 - Ensure high contrast. Check your icons are high-contrast enough against any backgrounds.
Slide 7 - Size matters. Test across a range of devices and sizes, check your icons still ‘work’ at every size you see them at.
Slide 8 - Give them space. Icons need sufficient space and tap-targets where they are used as buttons.
