The iconic Coca-Cola Polar Bears take center stage in the brand’s first large-scale Augmented Reality (AR) activation. By using the Coca-Cola mobile app to scan holiday cans and bottles, fans can explore the bears’ “arctic home” and share a little holiday magic.

Our first day is complete!!
Very satisfying to see this old cinema brought back to life with beautiful sound, visuals and playable cinema seats!!
Thanks again to everyone who worked so hard on this, including who did a great job building the custom playable seats.

The lovely folks at The Shorely have put together this great interview with Aurelia’s Chris Timpson, as he gives some background on his process and latest project at Paignton Picture House.

We will be bringing the Derelict cinema back to life tomorrow, with a virtual 21 piece orchestra speaker installation and interactive sound control via audience playable cinema seats.

An historic cinema brought to life through 3D soundscapes. Conjure the cinema’s original 21-piece orchestra in an installation combining historical references with immersive sound technology
The original Paignton Electric Picture Palace, opened in 1914, is believed to be the oldest surviving purpose-built cinema in Europe. Once a cinema and film library, it in its early days it featured a 21-piece orchestra, with each member paid a guinea to perform. Drawing on remarkable archive materials of Paignton Picture House Trust, Chris Timpson and collaborators are creating a new site-specific work, inspired by the original accompanying orchestra, transporting audiences into a wondrous Electric Sound Palace
Chris Timpson is a sound designer with a specialism in 3D spatial audio for both multi-speaker and headphone listening. His experience in this area is unique, having worked with immersive sound projects for several years, he is one of the leading specialists in ambisonic and 3D audio mixing. @ Paignton

On March 20 2018, headlines announced the death of Sudan, the last male northern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni). We briefly mourned a subspecies lost to human desire for the imagined life-enhancing properties of its horn, comforted that it might be brought back using biotechnology, albeit gestated by a different subspecies. But would humans protect a resurrected rhino, having decimated an entire species? And would this new rhino be real?

Artist ‘s new work, THE SUBSTITUTE explores this paradox: our preoccupation with creating new life forms, while neglecting existing ones. A northern white rhino is digitally brought back to life, informed by developments in the human creation of artificial intelligence (AI). Based on research led by Andrea Banino at , the rhino performs as an artificial agent, an autonomous entity that learns from its environment. A life-size projection shows the artificial rhino roaming in a virtual world, becoming more “real” as it comprehends the limits of the space. As the artificial rhino habituates to its room, its form and sound toggle from pixelation to lifelike—reminding the viewer that this living, breathing rhino, coming to life without its natural context, is entirely artificial. The experimental data is played on a second screen, showing the path and development of grid cells. The rhino’s behaviours and sounds are adapted from rare research footage of the last herd, provided by Dr Richard Policht. Is this rhino, coming to life divorced from its natural context, a better substitute for the real?
