DO YOU HAVE A STORY TO TELL? 📘

For Most people, they don't really dream of publishing a book.
What they dream about and have an urge for, is to tell their story.

It might have been floating about in their head for years. I know I've got at least 5 story ideas that I've had in my head for the past 30 years or more!

We all love stories and we love to tell them to other people, the book itself is just a great vehicle to do it.

The biggest challenge for most writers isn't the words, that's what they're good at after all. It's bringing their vision to life. It's translating how they see the story, the characters, the places, and ensuring their readers see what they see.

That's why real human illustration is so important. AI can't do what a human illustrator can. In fact, AI illustrations are often clumsy, garbled and don't scale or print very well, and that's before you even start on copyright issues! 🤦‍♂️

Every illustration should become stroytelling in and of itelf.

It should help the reader connect with the world you've created, and deepen the emotion they feel, to help make it not just an enjoyable read, but a full sensory experience.

The importance of the human behind the business.

When we "do" any kind of business, we aren't communicating with just some disconnected entity, we are dealing with real people with real lives.

Behind every single logo, website, product or linkedin post, is a real human being. A person with a real life, who has their own story, their own values, beliefs and thoughts.

But all too often, we hide behind the "business" facade, the corporate langauge, the buzz words, jargon and we think that everything that anyone sees of us has to be polished, perfect and "instagrammable."

But in the process of doing this, we can lose the human aspect, especially in a world filled with generic AI drivel online, it's easy to forget about the human at the centre of every business.

Every decision, every stress, every early start, every late night, ghosted email or missed payment has real world effects on a real human life.

Humans aren't perfect, but that's what makes us amazing!

When you allow the real human behind the business to connect with your clients, you begin to connect on an emotional level.

You stop being just a business and you start being you.

That is where the deeper connection comes in and where your real value shifts. When you show the human behind the business, your clients see everything you do as human and not a faceless entity.

Claire Scott Digital Marketing and I had a brilliant evening of delicious tappas, drinks and networking last night at the Built in Notts 1st year birthday event at Revolucion De Cuba Nottingham.

If you've not been along to a Built in Notts event, I can highly recommend it. What owner,
Martin Sandhu has built here is genuinely inspiring. You can grab a coffee, network, co-work and chat, but also meet some amazing startups, innovators and connect with loads of great people working within the tech space.

Last night's event featured a brilliant talk from Bal Bansal about the importance of human connection in marketing.

FENCE DAY!

In medieval times, today, June 9th saw the start of "Fence Season".

This was a month long period which meant that all of the "king's" forests and woodlands were off limits to everyone else.

The etymology of the word "fence" comes from the old english word to protect or fortify.

It's where we get the English words defence, fend and fender from.

The Fence season was a time when the "king's deer" were birthing or "fawning" their young, and so to protect them, the forests were "fenced" or off limits to the majority of the people, and even some animals.

During this period, no commoners, cattle, stray dogs, pigs, carts or wagons were allowed inside the forests.

This period still technically stands today, although it's not legally enforced now. If you visit a national trust forest during this period, you'll often see signs warning you to stay away from certain areas, as these will be known fawning grounds.

Today is National Leave the Office Early Day.

We get so busy in the business of being busy, that we forget the point of being is business in the first place.

Most of us get into business to give us freedom or more time with our families, but then we approach business the same as being employed, which defeats the entire object! 🤦‍♂️

Remembering why you do what you do is as important as doing it in the first place!

So today, work for your why, and don't just get caught up in the busy-ness of business.
