There's a lot of anger about smart glasses at the moment β€” and not enough thought about who it hurts.

When smart glasses get called "pervert glasses," that word doesn't just hit the technology. It hits the person using them to read a menu, find their bus, or tell one tin off the shelf from another.

We understand why people worry about cameras in public. Those questions are fair. So here's exactly how Mavis works:

Mavis isn't entertainment eyewear. It's an aid, built for blind and visually impaired people.

There is no option to save a photo or video β€” it isn't a setting we turned off, it simply isn't part of the product. What the camera sees is analysed to describe the wearer's surroundings, and then instantly deleted. There's no gallery, no album, nothing kept anywhere. Nothing stored means nothing that can be shared or leaked.

That makes it a very different thing from consumer glasses designed for filming and posting your day. Same name, completely different purpose.

We're based in the UK, and we're currently reaching out to restaurants, venues and organisations that have banned smart glasses β€” not to argue, but to explain the difference and help them write rules that protect everyone's privacy without shutting disabled people out.

And if you have questions, ask us. Anyone is welcome to call or message us, and we'll answer honestly. We can afford to be completely open about our data, because we don't keep any.

Privacy and accessibility aren't opposites. Get the design right and you have both. πŸ’™

Nothing tells the Mavis story better than the people using our glasses every day.

This week on RNIB Tech Talk (episode 628), Carl Peach β€” who's been living with the Mavis Smart Glasses β€” sat down to share how they're fitting into his daily life: getting around, reading text, and navigating the world with more independence and confidence.

Carl Peach has been with us from the very beginning, and his continuous support and honest feedback have shaped Mavis at every step. From all of us β€” thank you, Carl Peach. πŸ™

Hearing directly from our users is exactly why we built Mavis. Every piece of feedback shapes where we take the technology next.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Proudly made in the UK β€” designed, engineered, and manufactured right here!

At Mavis Tech, we build everything in-house β€” the hardware, the firmware, and the software. That means we can tailor glasses to what each customer actually needs, and it's also why we're able to push out new features almost every single day. πŸš€

Today we want to shine a light on one of our newest features: barcode scanning that tells you everything about a product, just by asking. πŸ›’

We know how stressful shopping can be when you can't easily tell what a product is, how healthy it is, whether it contains something you're allergic to, or what's actually in it. Now, all you have to do is ask your Mavis voice assistant to scan the barcode β€” and your glasses will read back the full product information. No guesswork, no worry. πŸ’™

This is exactly why we build in-house β€” so we can keep making everyday life a little easier, one update at a time.
More exciting features on the way β€” watch this space! πŸ‘€

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Lucy Rigby KC MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, to our manufacturing facility at Vulcan Works Creative Hub!πŸŽ‰

Lucy met our team and our CEO David Sikharulidze, took a tour of the facility, and even tried on our smart glasses for herself β€” it was fantastic to see her genuinely impressed by what we’ve built here in Northampton.

We shared with her that much of our machinery and equipment was purchased with the help of government grant funding, support that’s been instrumental in getting our manufacturing capability off the ground. We’re incredibly grateful for this kind of backing, and we feel very lucky to be based in Northampton, where that support has been so accessible to a young, ambitious business like ours.

A huge thank you to Lucy Rigby KC MP for taking the time to visit and for her support, and to Barclays UK eagle lab and Owen Moran for their continued support and for organising this meeting at Vulcan Works. πŸ™
