🇬🇧 Made in the UK: How We Design, Build and Perfect Our Smart Glasses
At Mavis, we’ve spent years in research and development with one goal in mind:
to create something truly innovative, competitive, and affordable — without compromising on quality.
Today, we are proud to say that our smart glasses bring all of this together.
From the firmware to the software, from the electronics to the physical frame – everything is designed and manufactured in‑house, right here in Northampton at Vulcan Works.
🔧 Built With Precision – All Under One Roof
Our glasses are equipped with a wide range of advanced sensors, and building them requires meticulous engineering. That’s why we invested in a full manufacturing setup, allowing us to keep every step of the process under our control.
🖥️ Electronics Manufacturing
Inside our facility, we operate full Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines, enabling us to assemble and produce every internal electronic component ourselves.
Our automated SMT line can manufacture up to 500 PCB units per day.
Each board then passes through AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) for detailed quality checks, ensuring every product is fault‑free.
After inspection, each unit undergoes a stress test, powered by a specially developed firmware to ensure it performs reliably in challenging situations.
Next, we load a pre‑production firmware to register the glasses in our system and assign a unique ID.
Finally, the production firmware is installed before the unit moves to the assembly line.
🕶️ Frame & Plastics – Designed with Sustainability in Mind
Our R&D team works with high‑precision 3D printers to perfect the design of every frame. Once a model is ready for production:
We manufacture our own moulds in‑house.
Frames are produced on our injection moulding machines, capable of making thousands per day.
We only use high‑quality, fully recyclable plastic.
And yes — sustainability matters to us.
If a product is returned, damaged, or at the end of its service life:
The plastic parts are shredded and recycled, ready to be used again.
Damaged electronics are repaired using our automated BGA rework station, then retested and returned to the assembly line.
Our approach reduces waste, lowers carbon emissions, and supports our long‑term environmental commitment.
🌍 Why Manufacturing in the UK Matters
By keeping everything in‑house, we:
Maintain full control over quality
Protect our UK and international IP
Reduce dependency on external suppliers
Ensure faster development, testing, and iteration cycles
Support local skills, jobs and innovation
We now hold UK and international IP rights and six+ registered designs.
Every product we ship carries the pride of British engineering, design, and craftsmanship.
🖼️ Image Description (for blind and low‑vision users)
The image shows part of the Mavis manufacturing facility. Several advanced SMT and electronics‑assembly machines line both sides of a clean, bright room with blue industrial flooring. On the wall, large bold text reads: “DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED IN THE UK.” The space looks modern, organised, and highly technical, highlighting the company’s in‑house production capabilities.
