🇬🇧 Made in the UK: How We Design, Build and Perfect Our Smart Glasses

At Mavis, we’ve spent years in research and development with one goal in mind:

to create something truly innovative, competitive, and affordable — without compromising on quality.

Today, we are proud to say that our smart glasses bring all of this together.

From the firmware to the software, from the electronics to the physical frame – everything is designed and manufactured in‑house, right here in Northampton at Vulcan Works.

🔧 Built With Precision – All Under One Roof

Our glasses are equipped with a wide range of advanced sensors, and building them requires meticulous engineering. That’s why we invested in a full manufacturing setup, allowing us to keep every step of the process under our control.

🖥️ Electronics Manufacturing

Inside our facility, we operate full Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines, enabling us to assemble and produce every internal electronic component ourselves.

Our automated SMT line can manufacture up to 500 PCB units per day.

Each board then passes through AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) for detailed quality checks, ensuring every product is fault‑free.

After inspection, each unit undergoes a stress test, powered by a specially developed firmware to ensure it performs reliably in challenging situations.

Next, we load a pre‑production firmware to register the glasses in our system and assign a unique ID.

Finally, the production firmware is installed before the unit moves to the assembly line.

🕶️ Frame & Plastics – Designed with Sustainability in Mind

Our R&D team works with high‑precision 3D printers to perfect the design of every frame. Once a model is ready for production:

We manufacture our own moulds in‑house.

Frames are produced on our injection moulding machines, capable of making thousands per day.

We only use high‑quality, fully recyclable plastic.

And yes — sustainability matters to us.

If a product is returned, damaged, or at the end of its service life:

The plastic parts are shredded and recycled, ready to be used again.

Damaged electronics are repaired using our automated BGA rework station, then retested and returned to the assembly line.

Our approach reduces waste, lowers carbon emissions, and supports our long‑term environmental commitment.

🌍 Why Manufacturing in the UK Matters

By keeping everything in‑house, we:

Maintain full control over quality

Protect our UK and international IP

Reduce dependency on external suppliers

Ensure faster development, testing, and iteration cycles

Support local skills, jobs and innovation

We now hold UK and international IP rights and six+ registered designs.

Every product we ship carries the pride of British engineering, design, and craftsmanship.

📞✨ Video Calling Through Our Smart Glasses – Staying Connected, Simply and Confidently
Today, we’d like to talk about another incredibly helpful feature built into our smart glasses: Video Calling.
Many devices on the market offer video calls, but our approach focuses on something far more meaningful — real, accessible support, whenever and wherever it’s needed.

🎥 A Smarter, More Supportive Video Call Experience
Whether you need guidance, a reassuring voice, or quick help in an unfamiliar situation, our glasses make it effortless.
🔹 24/7 Support, Always Available
If you ever need assistance, our dedicated support team is here for you around the clock.
With a quick voice command, you can start a video or audio call, and we’ll step in to help with whatever you’re facing.

👨‍👩‍👧 Call the People Who Matter Most
You’re not limited to our support team. You can also call a family member, a friend, or anyone you trust.
Simply say:
👉 “Make video call to portal.”
A secure video call opens on your personal portal, where anyone with the correct login can answer and see exactly what’s happening from your point of view.
And if you need someone to join just once:
📩 Send a Secure One‑Time Link
A temporary access link can be shared, allowing someone to join the call without needing permanent portal access — perfect for on‑the‑spot help.

🎛️ Useful Tools for the Person Supporting You
From the web portal, the supporter can:

🔍 Zoom in
🔎 Zoom out
🔄 Rotate the stream
🧊 Freeze the frame
🎧 Make an audio‑only call
☎️ Even place a landline call, if required

These tools allow them to guide you more effectively — seeing exactly what you see, from the best possible angle.

🌐 Built for Real Life
Our video calling feature is designed for the moments that matter — whether you’re outside, travelling or shopping.

🖼️ Image Description (for blind and low‑vision users)
The image shows a video call dashboard titled “Console Home”. The main screen displays a peaceful countryside scene with a winding dirt path running through green fields. There are several trees, rolling hills in the distance, and a bright sky filled with fluffy white clouds. Below the video window are buttons labelled Rotate, Zoom Out, and Zoom In.

⭐ Voice Assistance: The Heart of Our Smart Glasses Experience
Today we’re excited to share one of the most innovative and practical features built into our smart glasses — Voice Assistance.
Designed to make everyday tasks easier, faster, and completely hands‑free, it brings convenience and accessibility to a whole new level.

🎙️ How It Works
Using the voice assistant is incredibly simple:
👉 Press the button once – you’ll hear a beep.
👉 The glasses instantly start listening to your voice command.
👉 When you finish speaking, they detect the silence and stop recording automatically.
👉 You’ll receive a clear voice response right away.
👉 After the feedback, the glasses beep again, letting you know they’re ready for your next question.
No extra taps. No holding buttons. Just speak naturally and continue the conversation as long as you want.

🧠 What Can You Ask?
Just about anything you need:
✨ “Describe my surroundings.”
✨ “What’s the weather like now?”
✨ “Where is the nearest entrance?”
✨ “Check my battery level.”
✨ “Activate conversation mode.”
✨ “What colors do you see here?”
✨ “Identify this object.”
✨ “Who is this?” (only if the face is already added to your private database)
From orientation to everyday tasks, the glasses are always ready to help — quickly, privately, and hands‑free.

🌟 Smarter Assistance. More Independence.
This is more than a feature — it’s a step toward a more accessible and empowered future.
Whether for navigation, work, or daily life, our voice assistant is designed to make technology feel natural and effortless.
Stay tuned — more exciting updates coming soon! 💡👓✨
