This is a legendary amp that we had the pleasure of working on over the last couple of weeks.
It's a 1986 vintage Mesa Boogie (likely a mark III black stripe) and it received some significant work.
We started with a good clean inside-out. We then properly cleaned and lubricated all of the pots which completely got rid of the crackling sound.
The lead channel was also not working, along with the push-pull function of most of the pots. After some investigation, we found out a couple shorted caps and a few that were out of tolerance levels, so we decided to replace them all for future-proofing reasons.
This legendary piece of tech now sounds like new and looks pretty good as well for an amp this old.
