This is a legendary amp that we had the pleasure of working on over the last couple of weeks.

It's a 1986 vintage Mesa Boogie (likely a mark III black stripe) and it received some significant work.

We started with a good clean inside-out. We then properly cleaned and lubricated all of the pots which completely got rid of the crackling sound.

The lead channel was also not working, along with the push-pull function of most of the pots. After some investigation, we found out a couple shorted caps and a few that were out of tolerance levels, so we decided to replace them all for future-proofing reasons.

This legendary piece of tech now sounds like new and looks pretty good as well for an amp this old.

We seem to get a lot of class D amps lately, which makes sense as they're often more convenient and more reliable. However, they're almost always a headache to diagnose and fix when they fail, but it was all worth it in the end.

That was the case with this orange bass head, which had no output at all. Turns out it was all because of a faulty crossover coil.

Yet another Marshall Valvestate VS100 came in with a very common fault.

The valve socket had oxidised, which was causing the low, distorted output. While we were at it, we also replaced a couple of capacitors that are known to fail over time.

Now it’s back to full power and sounding as it should!

A very interesting piece of equipment came in last week.

This is a hand-built "Keytonics" integrated amp. They went out of business quite a few years ago but it's still a solid, well-built amp that was worth repairing.

Turns out it only had some oxidised pins and some blown transistors, and we were able to get it working in no time.

Just wanted to share another service that we can do.

This is our Jackson V which initially had some passive pickups (last pic) that weren't that bad to be fair but we decided that we need a little more power.

We swapped them for some active EMG Bone Breakers which are much higher output than the original ones, making this guitar sound a lot better.

This samsung home cinema unit recently came in, stuck in protection mode. Turns out it was a very small component that blew, which has also damaged the pcb under it. We quickly ordered a new one and replaced it, which made it work again.

Yamaha DXR15 Active speaker

This speaker came in last week stuck in protection mode. After opening it the problem was clear - 2 transistors decided it was time to retire and blew a couple other components too. Luckily, it was only 4 other resistors that blew, however, it did take quite a while to test everything out as the components on these class D amplifiers are incredibly small, and numerous. It was all worth it though, as it's now fully working 😪.

This Marshall Origin 50 combo came in last Sunday with extremely low sound coming out of it. The issue was quite unexpected for an amp that's this new, which was a blown Celestion Midnight speaker 😳.

We quickly ordered and fitted the amp with a brand new one, gave the pots a good clean and did a few checks to make sure there's nothing else wrong with it. It is now ready to rock again 🎸🎸

This was a more special amp that we had the pleasure of taking care of over the weekend. It kept blowing fuses and had no output at all.

It received a brand-new, matched quad of JJ 6L6GC valves, a full re-bias, and a general check-up — after which it was ready to shred again! 🎸🎸
