There are times when you absolutely need to change something on your website immediately.

Maybe it’s an embargoed news story that was published too early and needs to be taken offline.

Perhaps the regulatory body you are a member of requires the wording of a certain paragraph to be changed, or else you’ll be fined.

It could be that a solicitor has issued a cease and desist notice to remove a copyrighted image that was placed on your website innocently because you were unaware that not all Google Images results can be copied and used by anyone without licensing them first.

You may already have somebody who looks after website maintenance, whether it’s a colleague, a freelancer on a retainer, or a friend. But what if you can’t get hold of them? What if they are on holiday?

Domain names can be haunted. Before committing to building an online presence around one, check the history of a domain name by:

🎃 Searching the Wayback Machine at archive.org – does something look spooky?

🐈‍⬛ Checking for previous copyright claims – does it have a heinous past?

👻 Searching historical SEO for the domain – was there a backlink to Hades?
