Ranking #1 on Google used to mean something.

Not anymore — at least not by itself.

AI Overviews now show up on 80%+ of local service searches. When they do, 60% of people never scroll past them.

Your painting contractor client can be #1 in the blue links and still watch calls dry up, because the AI answer above it is quoting someone else.

The fix isn't "better SEO." It's making sure your Google reviews (200+, recent, 4.5+) are strong enough to be the source AI cites in the first place.
