You will join our multi-site Operations Team, taking primary responsibility for developing service security policy and services patch management.
About the Operations Team:
The Operations Team keeps the heart of the company beating. With responsibility for everything from new services R&D, to provisioning (automation), internal systems management, monitoring and security, our Ops team have an essential role in keeping Layershift running smoothly - and hence the success of our company in addressing the needs of our customers.
You will also be expected to undertake additional Operations Team duties as skills and time permit, falling within the remit of the Operations Team. These duties will be formalised and agreed together with your line manager on a project by project basis but may include deployment and maintenance of monitoring systems, development of provisioning scripts and/or processes, and R&D of specific tools and technologies that may be applicable to the company.
Aims of the position:
Given that "cloud is just someone else's computer," we can only provide our customers with our range of cloud hosting services thanks to our racks full of physical servers. As an Operations Engineer, your goal is to keep those servers running smoothly: cradle to grave. An important aspect of this is to ensure that we maintain a comprehensive oversight over which systems require which patches to be deployed, with what level of urgency, and at all times maintaining the right balance between end-user business needs (e.g. in relation to uptime and service disruption) against security best practices.
Tools of the trade:
We aim to use best of breed technology for each problem we're trying to solve. Identifying what to use and how to use it forms an important part of the role: what we use today is not necessarily what we should continue to use for tomorrow's challenges! However, here are some of the tools we're using today: Ansible, Docker, FastNetMon, Git, LibreNMS, Redmine, Plesk, Virtuozzo, Zabbix, Zulip. Prior experience with any of them or counterpart tools that perform the same or similar roles may be beneficial but not essential; your willingness and ability to explore and learn is far more important.
What youโll get:
- A competitive salary (flexible salary depending on experience)
- Regular salary reviews
- Performance-related bonuses
- Flexible schedule
- Meal tickets
- Private pension
- Medlife private medical "Executive" subscription
- Full training in software you will be using regularly
