A legal bowling action, as per the International Cricket Council (ICC), mandates that a bowler's elbow extension remains within 15 degrees from the moment the arm is horizontal up to the ball release. This precise angle is where science meets sport, ensuring fair play and integrity in the game.

The integration of inertial sensors and machine learning in cricket has revolutionised the analysis of fast bowling, enabling precise measurements of pelvis and thorax velocities, thoracic angular velocity, and timing between foot contacts to predict ball release speed effectively. Particularly, Gaussian process regression models stand out, accurately predicting up to 82% of the variation in ball release speeds with minimal error. This advancement not only makes elite-level analysis accessible on the field, enhancing real-time training adjustments but also fosters a more personalised coaching approach.
