My career - like many people these days - has been quite varied, I actually began in farm management, moved into rustproofing motorcars, and even sold replacement windows for a year before joining GEC Reliance selling telephone systems. Although I was on the Sales side, I attended installations or checked them afterwards, and my initial telecom engineering skills were picked up this way.
Working for a large company after working for yourself is quite an eye opener. They had good systems but weren't interested in the extras that customers wanted. I found myself working at the week-ends providing customers with answer machines, bells for key systems and strobes, so in 1988 a colleague and myself set up Mojocom Systems Ltd.
At least three systems we installed in the early days of the company worked for 23 years, but how things have changed. Now home workers can be in the next room, in the same building or more or less anywhere in the world. Over the last eight years one of my customers has moved from the UK to Cypress, then Denmark, China and is now in the Philippines, still retaining his London number.
Moving through Analogue to ISDN to IP (Internet Protocol), Hybrid and Hosted Systems, we are in exciting times and I still get a buzz tailoring systems to Customer needs.
