One of the most talked-about adverts of the 2000s was Honda’s legendary ‘Cog’ from 2003.

Honda Accord components triggered an impossibly precise chain reaction, with no CGI involved. It was all real, with months of painstaking planning, engineering, testing and patience - the full version reportedly took more than 300 attempts to perfect yet was only shown 10 times in its first 10 days because of the cost of the two-minute TV slots.

The reaction was huge, with the advert becoming a genuine water-cooler conversation and attracting enormous attention to Honda online. ⚙️

Do you remember this masterpiece?

“Good effort” 😂

Few things have ever been more passionately committed to than Michael Lewis from North London, who claimed to have been spoken to by the spirit of Michael Jackson, turning up to The X Factor dressed as his hero.

Launching into catastrophic versions of “Rock With You” and an a capella “Human Nature”, when the audience failed to respond as enthusiastically as he’d hoped he informed them that they had “no love in their hearts”.

The confidence was Michael Jackson, the vocals were something else, and the scene overall was pure X Factor chaos 😂

Top of the Pops had one simple rule: turn up, mime along and try not to look too embarrassed about it.

Naturally, some artists chose chaos instead. The Smiths had Morrissey swinging a bouquet of flowers around his head rather than even pretending to play by the rules, while Nirvana took the mick spectacularly - Dave Grohl barely bothering to fake the drums as Kurt Cobain delivered “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in a hilariously over-the-top Morrissey-esque croon.

New Order, meanwhile, actually got their wish and were allowed to perform “Blue Monday” live… only to discover why everyone else was miming, as one of the biggest electronic records ever made suddenly lost its punch on national television.

Some of the greatest moments in TV history are the interviews that went spectacularly off the rails 😂 From the S*x Pistols causing absolute chaos with Bill Grundy on Today, to Nicolas Cage demonstrating his, shall we say, unique interview technique with front flips on Wogan, Paul McCartney facing Noel Edmonds on The Late Late Breakfast Show, Oliver Reed doing what Oliver Reed did on After Dark, and Faith No More bringing their own brand of mayhem to The Word - these were the interviews where you genuinely had no idea what was going to happen next. Car-crash television at its absolute finest. 📺💥

One of the funniest moments in Extras has to be Patrick Stewart’s cameo 😂

It’s the perfect example of what made Extras so brilliant: huge stars being willing to completely destroy their own image for a joke.

And, amazingly, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant barely had to convince these household names to do it! Self-deprecating humour prevailed 🙌

One of the most bizarrely believable stories ever told on Would I Lie to You? came from Bob Mortimer, who claimed that he once witnessed Chris Rea cracking an egg into his bath. 🤣

It’s hilarious to watch him get increasingly flabbergasted and questioning himself 😂
