Humanitarian Aid under Contested Governance: Myanmar π²π²
A Joint Event by War Studies Society (WSS) and Southeast Asian Society (SEASOC)
How does humanitarian aid operate in regions where governance is fragmented and political authority is contested?
As the first event of our revived Forgotten Wars series, this talk uses Myanmar as a case study to explore the challenges of delivering humanitarian assistance in complex political environments. Featuring Dr Xu Peng, Research Fellow in Political Economy at the University of Manchester, and Eugenie Munakarmi, Chief Operating Officer of Children of the Mekong UK, the discussion will examine the political and practical considerations involved in providing aid amid ongoing conflict.
We'll begin with a brief introduction to the conflict, followed by a moderated discussion and audience Q&A π€
π This event also supports Children of the Mekong, a charity founded in 1958 that provides support, education and training to disadvantaged youth in Southeast Asia.
Entry is free for WSS and SEASOC members, while non-members are asked to make a minimum Β£5 donation to the charity.
