It’s been a great pleasure for me over the last couple of years working with some incredible musicians for my projects, most recently for my album introducing clarinet, jazz guitar, brass sections and all manner else to the story, taking my grooves to a richer and more musical direction.
It was amazing then to work with my sister, classical composer to create a piece for world-renowned virtuoso trombonist .moore_ - “Lyra’s Lullaby” - as part of her “Love Songs and Lullabies” album for .
First Rox came to my studio with the score she had written, based loosely on traditional Croatian lullaby “Ljuljaj mi, Sine” and together we recorded the parts, mixing the beautiful chiming parts of celeste, glockenspiel and grand piano which I dressed further with percussion, evocative synth pads, sound effects and textures.
Then arrived Peter, between his busy schedule performing literally around the globe with some of the world’s leading orchestras in the most incredible venues, to my tiny broom cupboard of a studio where you could hardly swing a cat let alone a trombone. Yet he delivered his emotional and expressive performance to the piece with absolute perfection.
What we have I think is a deeply atmospheric track, both invariably haunting and warming, which to me taps into childhood hopes and fears. I also think it is the most perfect blend of Rox and my styles.
