Who caught this superb remix first time around?

Adapted from the chapter of the same name in my musical book The Legend of Kaptain Karnival, Rejoice & Shake Ass comes at the point in your colourful journey where it’s time to let loose, allow yourself some faith and embrace the good spirit whoever and whatever that might be.

It was a great thrill having legendary New Yorker remix this track, I’ve been a huge fan for over quarter of a century, his Ursadelica album in the early 2000s was a huge influence.

Did you see the legendary Eddy Temple-Morris 🎸🎶🔊📻🚗📺🍴🍷’s lovely video about my record sleeves and musical book yesterday? I am chuffed to bits! Find it on his page right now…

Eddy was a staunch supporter of Finger Lickin’ Records and breaks as a whole right from the off, and a champion of the indies, kicking off most notably when he had his superb and indispensable XFM show which exposed him to some amazing, exclusive music with great stories from the scene, which he now regularly tells us in his inimitable, witty and wonderful way. I watch and enjoy them regularly, he is such a fabulous raconteur!

And so, dear fiends, I found myself the subject yesterday - can you imagine! Go and check it out on his channel, tell him I sent ya!

Here’s my original line art for Finger Lickin’ Tools which I posted about yesterday (seems like many of you had two copies!).

Like all my Finger Lickin’ Records sleeves it started out as brush and ink on cartridge paper before being imported into photoshop for colouring and text.

I was pretty new to Photoshop in 2001, I’d only just got my own Mac and was getting into all the flash bang wallop that I suppose dates it now, but I wonder - when we finally get past all this current AI slop, at the same pace we got over obvious photoshop edits, naff drop shadows, grading etc. will we be back at an era when technology and human soul are an even balance again?

Don’t forget, in the mid-90s we were awash with comic sans posters for quiz nights, goddam awful synth presets, really dreadful animated computer graphics, and much as I love rave flyers about 90% made me puke with the over-indulgence of layer effects really trying to push the boat out with digital manipulation.

I do feel that us human are quite discerning, it didn’t take long for us to second-guess AI’s involvement in something - and turn our nose up at it. Like all technology it will usurp the masses at first because of cheap instantaneousness, but all of us, looking for character and soul, will be the judge in the end, and push the boundaries further if needed.

Who had a copy of Finger Lickin’ Tools from 2001? A vinyl record of lockgrooves, scratches and samples created by Plump_Djs, Lee Coombs, Krafty Kuts, Lanx DrumAttic Drumattic Twins and us, ?

I only seem to have the sleeve so I can’t remember what was on there, I know I included a few whooshes from my Juno106 (which I then heard on other tracks down the line and DJ mixes… ). Was it a handy tool for you? What do you remember best about it?
