People still say, “HR is just about managing people.”
If only they knew.

Our Head of Growth, Ryan Heydenrych, attended an HR networking breakfast this week and got a front-row seat to just how heavy the HR load really is.

The session focused on parental leave and the recent changes in how maternity and paternity leave are handled. What sounds simple on paper quickly becomes a complex mix of legal interpretation, policy updates, fairness to employees, and the very real human stories behind each case.
HR isn’t “just people.”

It’s law, strategy, empathy and risk management… all before 10am.

And once the policies are agreed on, there’s a new challenge:
How do you help every manager and employee actually understand and apply them?

That’s where training comes in.
At PETE and PlutoLMS, we help organisations turn complex policies into clear, accessible learning that staff can work through at their own pace, with a record of who’s completed what.

Curious how other HR leaders are handling the new parental leave changes.
How are you approaching it in your organisation?

🌱 Every thriving company has one thing in common: someone who never stops growing others. 🌟

To the people leaders, HR pros, and L&D heads reading this — this is for you.

You keep teams moving. You turn confusion into clarity. You build skills that change careers and companies. That work matters.

We need learning that actually lands. When people learn efficiently and confidently, everything else moves: onboarding, safety, customer experience, revenue. Skills aren’t a nice-to-have. They’re oxygen for growth.

Here’s what you do, every day:
✅You turn know-how into simple, repeatable systems so growth isn’t held together by heroics.
✅You capture your experts’ brains and scale them, so teams don’t wait for the one person who “knows how.”
✅You save hours and reinvest them where they count: serving customers, building product, creating jobs.

Do this well and you unlock two wins at once: companies grow without burning people out, and employees get a real shot at doing extraordinary work. That strengthens teams, careers, and the economy at the same time.

If you’re serious about skills, start small and move fast: pick one process, turn it into a short, clear learning path, ship it, improve it, repeat.

Keep going. You’re building a world where skills are the competitive advantage, and it shows.

💡 Before you invest in training, be clear on one thing:
What problem are we actually solving?

Every company says they want to “develop their people,” but few can explain why, how, or to what end.

Training without clarity is like building muscle without knowing which sport you’re training for — you’ll get stronger, but not necessarily better. 🏋️‍♂️

To understand your organisation’s real learning needs, start with a few honest questions:
✅ Do our training goals connect to real people skills and business outcomes?
✅ Are employees and managers equally engaged in the process?
✅ Can we adapt fast when priorities shift?
✅ Do we measure impact, or just completion rates?
✅ Are we building for today’s needs and tomorrow’s skills?

And don’t keep those questions in HR.
Ask them in sales, operations, finance, and customer support.
Skill gaps ripple across every team. 🌊

Once you’ve got a clear picture, the path forward is easier to see:

🚀 PETE.com = Speed, agility, creation.
For teams that can’t build fast enough or keep training relevant.

🏗️ PlutoLMS.com = Scale, structure, analytics.
For organisations with content but no clear way to manage or measure it effectively.

Understanding where you stand is the first step to growing your people. 🌱

If you’re at a stage where you’re evaluating options and having this discussion, we’d be happy to talk and offer further insight.

We’re quick to ⚙️ want employees to do things better,
but we don’t always stop to 💭 ask why we’re training them in the first place.

🎯 Getting clear on the real problem makes the value of any training platform 10×
because moving faster doesn’t help if you’re headed in the wrong direction.

So ⏳ take a step back before you rush ahead, clarity saves time.

At the 'AI-First, Not AI-Overwhelmed' session last week, Per Lagerstrom described what’s happening right now as the Industrial Revolution of our time... just crammed into ten years!

Ryan Heydenrych, Head of Growth for PETE Learning and PlutoLMS by PETE, attended the Innovation City Cape Town event as an engaged member of the AI and innovation community. He considered how these shifts are reshaping business strategy and impacting companies focused on employee learning and development.

Per’s message was clear: the old ways of doing things... in consulting, education, and HR are no longer keeping up. The way people learn and make decisions is evolving, and the systems designed to teach and guide them need to evolve too.

Key takeaways for L&D teams!

⚖️✨ Balance and experiment
Use your proven training materials, or company documents, but start leveraging this using AI to make learning faster, easier, and more personal.

💡🎯 Know the employees “why
Just like brands study customer intent, training needs to understand what drives employees to learn, and what skills they are needing to thrive. Motivation is a vital metric.

🌍💻Blend the real and digital
Classroom, on-site, and online learning should feel like one seamless experience, not separate worlds.

Companies that focus on building trust, adapting quickly, and having a clear sense of purpose will go beyond just teaching employees new skills, they’ll develop stronger, more capable teams who can handle change and think for themselves.

At PETE and PlutoLMS, that’s exactly where our focus lies. Using AI to make course creation faster, smarter, and more human-centred. It goes deeper than content - with voice cloning, simulations, and real-world testing that bring learning to life.

If your organisation is rethinking how it builds skills in this new AI-first world, book a short PETE or PlutoLMS demo with Ryan and see what’s possible.

There’s a certain power in listening deeply to the journeys of other businesses. It’s why storytelling connects so strongly, it’s not just information, it’s lived experience.

Our Head of Growth, Ryan Heydenrych, represented and .learning at an event this week, and here are his key takeaways.

This week I joined the and event:
The Space – Inspiring Business Growth.

The keynote by Eitan Stern from Legalese stood out. His brand and personality are inseparable, and that authenticity shines. His story about offering legal advice in a more human, less intimidating way was refreshing. He reminded us how vital it is for any business to have a legal strategy, even if it’s just a framework.

The fireside chat, expertly hosted by Heather Poulos, brought the entrepreneurial journey to life.

Hannah Lavery .sa shared the moment she committed to designing clothes she would actually wear; simple, elegant, no unnecessary frills. That clarity worked.

Hannah Rubin from explained how carefully choosing ingredients built not just a product, but a brand customers trust and return to, one she proudly uses herself.

The common thread? When founders stay true to themselves, their brands earn trust naturally.

And here’s the bridge for us in learning and workforce development: growth doesn’t come from piling on more tools, courses, or frameworks. It comes from clarity, alignment, and building something that reflects your culture and values.

That’s the work we do every day with and .learning, helping organisations cut through the noise, design learning that feels authentic, and create impact that lasts.

It was energising to connect with so many passionate entrepreneurs building businesses with heart and clarity.

Today is Heritage Day in South Africa. South Africa’s heritage is more than history, it’s a living library.

A collection of voices, traditions, and lessons passed down through families, workplaces, and communities.

Heritage Day isn’t just “braai day”. It’s a reminder that learning doesn’t only happen in boardrooms or online modules.

It happens in stories told around a fire.
In recipes perfected over generations.
In languages that carry entire worldviews.

As professionals in learning and development, maybe the best thing we can do today is pause and listen. To ask: What knowledge is already here, waiting to be shared?

Here’s to the wisdom we inherit, the cultures we celebrate, and the future we’re building together.

What part of your own heritage continues to shape how you learn or lead today?

Ever feel like L&D is expected to do it all?
Be innovative. Be tech-first. Be data-driven.

But here’s the secret nobody likes to admit:
Most departments are still wrestling with spreadsheets just to track who finished a course.

In fact, research shows nearly 60% of L&D teams still rely on manual tracking to measure progress.

That’s why PlutoLMS.com exists. The foundation is in user management, course management, superb reporting capability.

So you can focus on innovation where it really matters.
You can’t sprint if you’re still tripping over the basics.

Ready to build strong foundations? It starts with a conversation with us. https://www.plutolms.com/schedule

Before modern search, there was that one person who just… knew 👑.
Ask, and 30 seconds later you had the link, the context, and the “don’t forget step 3.”

That role still matters—but it’s fragile. When the 'go-to' is off, overloaded, or moves on, teams fall into rabbit-hole searches and two hours later you’re more confused than when you started.

How to turn one brain into shared, usable knowledge (and keep it alive in your LMS):

🔸Capture real questions from Slack/Teams, tickets, and meetings.
🔸Keep it tiny: 5–10 minute screen recordings beat 40-minute decks.
🔸One-pagers: task-specific cheat sheets for “how do I…?” moments.
🔸Quick checks: short quizzes or “try-it” steps so teams can self-serve.
🔸Make it findable: tag by role, system, and job-to-be-done; link from where people work.

Isn’t that the point of a functioning LMS? Train with the best knowledge your company has—so answers are faster, work is smoother, and more people become the next “go-to.”

Your turn ❓ How are you capturing and sharing the best knowledge in your org?
