Combating cyber threats
As a business owner, you are a prime target for cyber attacks, and it is important that you take the necessary steps to protect your business against them. Here are some tips to help you protect your business from cyber threats.
What are the steps that you should take?
Train Your Employees:
Make sure that all employees are aware of the potential threats to the business.
Implement Access Controls:
Limit access to sensitive data and systems.
Use Encryption:
Encrypt sensitive data both in transit and at rest.
Computer/device login:
Create a strong password for your device.
Laptop and/or desktop computer.
Mobile phone and/or tablet.
On your laptop or desktop computer, turn on the firewall turned.
Install anti-virus and ensure it is enabled.
Install ant-malware and ensure it is enabled.
Install the latest updates on your work devices as soon as they're available.
Before installing a new app or new software on a work device, check it's from an official source.
Create a strong password for your work email.
Change your passwords on your work email and social media accounts.
If a cyber criminal gets access to your work email account, they could:
• read your personal and business emails, and access private information about you
• reset the passwords on your other accounts.
• send emails to your business or client contacts pretending to be you, or imitate you on social media platforms.
You should use strong and separate passwords for each one of your work email and social media accounts so that if one account is hacked, a cyber criminal won’t be able to access the others using the same password.
Do you have a recent backup of all your important work data?
You should implement online backup, using 'the cloud'.
