An exciting Ethereum upgrade is due to hit the mainnet as early as this quarter! What does this update include, and how will it decrease Ethereum network congestion, while decreasing Layer 2 network costs?
⚛️ Ethereum's upcoming "Dencun" upgrade represents a significant leap in scalability, integrating two crucial components—Cancun, focusing on the ex*****on layer, and Deneb, targeting the consensus layer.
Central to this upgrade is the implementation of Danksharding, a unique approach deviating from traditional shard chains. In a nutshell, Danksharding provides Ethereum with the capacity to handle traffic more cleverly with so-called data blobs.
This upgrade aligns with co-founder Vitalik Buterin's roadmap, known as 'The Surge.'
This roadmap envisions Ethereum evolving through stages like 'The Scourge,' focusing on censorship resistance, and 'The Verge,' emphasizing easier block verification. Ultimately, Ethereum aims for 'The Purge' and the extremely aptly named 'Splurge,' streamlining the protocol and addressing remaining challenges.
Ethereum is making huge leaps toward becoming a more modular and scalable blockchain, and this update should increase the scalability of L2 rollups, hopefully lowering the barriers to entry for web3 as a whole.
