How would a sub-£120 DJ centric cartridge fair on a beautiful, high end audiophile positioned Wand turntable?

HiFi Auditions have answered just that question:

"I used it on my Design Build Listen 14-4 turntable fitted with The Wand Plus 9.5″ tonearm. The preamplifier is a Black Ice Audio F159 tube stage with adjustable loading. My regular cartridges have much lower output voltage, so I was expecting the JICO to be louder.

It provides a lively, vigorous and dynamic sound, reproducing bass frequencies powerfully with a smooth, balanced sound, similar to the original Shure M44-7 cartridge. I like it a lot, and it doesn’t sound like it’s not an audiophile performer.

I’ve seen other users referring to a big sound with a big bass response and bright clear top end, and a very loud, punchy sound. The lower end is extremely weighty and pronounced, and the bright treble can be fatiguing, apparently. Overall, the sound is warm, punchy, and physical, with bite. So far, I’ve not found it anything other than a pleasure to use, especially at this price."

The award winning WAND EQ MM/MC phonostage

Its name 'EQ' evolves from the fact that it was fine-tuned to maximise the 'Emotional Quotient' of music that may be resolved in vinyl. It uses an extremely low noise dual J-FET input and power supply to compliment this and the detail resolution possible from The Wand 14-4 turntable and tonearm. It operates purely in Class A.

The Wand EQ is switchable for Moving Coil Cartridges or Moving Magnet cartridges and impedance / capacitance on the back panel. It is available as a stand-alone unit or as a module inside The Wand 14-4 turntable.

The stand-alone unit is housed in an acoustically inert plywood case on a tripod of feet for vibration isolation. Finally, in keeping with a product that is 90% handmade in Aotearoa / New Zealand, the plywood is hand rubbed with Manuka Beeswax polish, connecting with audio enthusiasts who literally want the unvarnished truth.
