SCAM ALERT

When you see a photo of a dog that was found and the person posting says they can't find the owner and is looking for assistance, please tap on that person's profile photo and judge whether or not the post is legit. The same if it is a missing person, particularly an elder person with dementia.

How can you tell?
Well, if the person is in Ireland, or Kenya, or even Thunder Bay, and has no other posts, it's probably a scam.

Why would someone do this?
Because once you share their post, they can then change the post to anything they want. And suddenly you are advertising weight loss products, or sunglasses, or rallies for politics you are not supporting.

We all have the sweetest intentions to reunite pets with their owners, but scam artists prey on this. Unless there is a specific location, or the person sharing has mutual friends with you, just keep scrolling.

And never send money. EVER.

Have you heard about sim-swapping attacks? No matter what size or shape the SIM, compromising it is a relatively simple task — this is why the attack is so popular. Scammers call your mobile carrier and say your phone was lost or you dropped it, and it doesn't work. They ask the carrier to activate a new SIM with your phone number on their phone. If they sound convincing enough, you're toast. Because once the swap is made, you don't get any of your texts, calls or other data. Anything that is tied to your cell phone number is fair game for the attacker to compromise. At this point, the scammer can change your email address and make changes to your banking and credit information, posing as you.

This type of attack is becoming increasingly easier, thanks to data breaches that associate email addresses and mobile phone numbers.

Ever wondered how you get adverts on Facebook for items you bowser for on other websites?
Facebook have a new setting called “Off Facebook activity” which allows them to track you when you are not even on Facebook!
Here’s how to turn it off.....

You can protect your privacy from Facebook by disabling the Off Facebook Activity feature. If it is turned on, then Facebook can track the apps you used.

Another scam!
Got a text (see below) from same Royal Mail number/server the legitimate ones come from. They did not attempt delivery, I wasn’t expecting anything either, so I clicked the link and the web address was spelt wrong, again, see below.
They ask for your D.O.B! So filled out the form with some fictitious details and submitted it, website crashed, scammers have useless data and you all know it’s a scam!
Please beware, some could fall for it!
