The Rhodes MK8 is now the Official Electric Piano of Blue Note Los Angeles.

Since 2024, an MK8 has been part of Blue Note New York. Now, the arrival of the MK8 at Blue Note Los Angeles brings that connection to the West Coast, with the instrument available to artists performing at the club.

GRAMMY-winning keyboardist Cory Henry has already taken to the MK8 at Blue Note LA and returns this fall for The Church Experience - a series of Gospel Brunch performances on October 18 and November 15.

The Rhodes 80AE has been nominated for a 2027 TEC Award in the Musical Instrument Hardware category.

The nomination is especially significant in Rhodes' 80th anniversary year. In 1946, Harold Rhodes presented the Pre-Piano at NAMM - an early milestone in a story that would go on to shape the sound of the electric piano.

Eight decades later, the 80AE was created to mark that legacy. Its nomination for a TEC Award at NAMM brings the story full circle.

How did the Rhodes Fullerton factory build as many as 800 pianos a week at peak production?

In this final instalment in a three-part historical blog series, former Rhodes General Foreman Roger Garvin reveals exactly what went into building the vintage Rhodes piano at Fullerton.

In conversation with Rhodes Chief Product Officer Dan Goldman, Roger traces how cabinets, keybeds, harps, tines, tone bars and pickup rails came together - revealing an intricate network of in-house production, specialist suppliers and shared CBS/Fender parts.

From fixtures used to set tine height and pickup distance to hand tuning, final voicing and the notorious problem of cracking tine blocks, the article uncovers the ingenious production methods - and occasional headaches - behind one of music’s most iconic instruments.

Eight decades on, the MK8/80AE continues the Rhodes legacy, rooted in the same hands-on approach to craftsmanship, engineering, and refinement that has shaped the Rhodes piano throughout its history.
