Once a developer has genuinely good AI tooling, the instinct is to reach for it constantly. It is faster and usually correct, so turning it off can feel like leaving productivity on the table.

But some categories of work are not really about the output. Here is a risk that is specific to AI generated code and did not really exist before it.

AI coding tools sometimes recommend packages that do not exist. Researchers at three US universities found this happens in close to one in five AI generated code samples. Attackers have started registering those exact hallucinated names on public package registries ahead of time, loaded with malicious code, betting that a developer, or an autonomous agent, will install it on the AI's recommendation.

A developer shipped working code on a Friday afternoon. By Monday morning, she had a problem.

The agent had done exactly what she asked. That was the issue.

Her spec described what the feature needed to do. It said nothing about the decisions that sat underneath that. The agent made those decisions itself, and none of them were the choices the team would have made.

Her post-mortem came down to one line: "I wrote a description. I needed to write an instruction set."

The second version of the spec was more precise. Each task had a clear done condition. Pause points were built in where a human needed to review before the agent continued. The work was broken into nine tasks instead of two, sized so a problem caught early did not compound into a problem caught late.
