Exhibitors need more than 6ft of MDF and best wishes…

At The Lost Squirrel Creatives, I support business development event organisers to give their exhibitors the strategy, support and environment they need to get more from their events, without using extra resources you don’t have spare.

If you are creating an event that has exhibitors as part of your day, then I would love the opportunity to speak to you and share how I can support you and your event.

You can initiate this by commenting below or getting into my inbox!

If you are an exhibitor with an event booked but feel underprepared or like your event organiser needs a little bit of help, tag them below.

What are attendees actually seeing?

When you look at your stand, you see your business.
You know what the logo means, why you chose the wording, what the leaflet is about and what each service does.

An attendee does not have that context.

They may be looking at your stand for a couple of seconds while also taking in the noise, people, signs, displays and conversations happening everywhere else around them.

They are trying to work out three things very quickly.

Is this relevant to me?
Do I understand what they do?
Do I have a reason to stop?

If the answers are not obvious, they will probably keep walking.
That does not mean your stand needs more words. It usually means it needs more clarity.

The aim is not to explain your entire business from across the room. It is to help the right person recognise that there is a reason to come closer.

If you are anything like me, when I go to events I like to have a role, or I am not sure what on earth I am supposed to do.

Different events have different intentions = different hats

Sometimes I am:

- Event support
- An Exhibitor
- A Sponsor
- Emotional support for lost-looking delegates

Very rarely am I ‘Lauren’ in my purest form…

I am out to support more event organisers, exhibitors and attendees to show up as themselves, in whatever way that looks.

Events can be amazing tools, but when we have to pretend to be someone else to feel like we belong, that's where work needs to be done.

Join me in November to explore this idea and discover what you need to get the most out of events.

I have missed this month's fix of The NETwork, so I am heading up to Leeds on Friday to join Marina for their August meet-up.

Regina is the guest speaker, talking about how to use SEO to get your business found, featured & fully booked.

And, not only do you get to enjoy what we have to offer, it’s Carnival weekend in Leeds too, so you could make a cheeky weekend of it!
Will you be joining us?

There were all sorts of things I could have done for my stand at Reclaimed Means Business, but I wanted to use my space for a more interactive, visibility-focused piece over anything else.

I will have something you can sign up for on the day with a great offer
I will still have some for those who want to be kept in the loop but not to buy
I will also have something you can take away without speaking to me loads too

But the exciting bit is visually demonstrating to you how many different thoughts and perspectives we will have in the room on that day.

If you want to come and get involved and take part in the display, please find me in the expo area!

Whilst August was a great time for me to go all in on promoting From A Different Perspective, it wasn’t the best timing for so many of you lovely people who wanted to join.

With this in mind, I have set the new date and given you 3 months to get it in the diary and a pay-in-2 option!

The new date will be Friday 20th November, Central Manchester

If you were enthusiastic about getting involved and the date didn’t fit, hopefully this one will!

How do attendees actually want to interact?

Not everybody wants to walk up to a stranger behind a table and begin a conversation.

• Some people need to look first
• Some want to absorb the info
• Some are happy to join an activity
• Others want to ask one quick question, collect what they need and move on.

This is why we need to stop designing stands around one expected behaviour.

A good stand should give people more than one way in.

This could be a clear question they can respond to, something physical they can interact with, or an obvious conversation starter.

The more we understand how people behave in event spaces, the less we have to rely on aggressively trying to pull them into a conversation.

Need help ensuring your stand hits more than one way of interaction? Comment below and let's chat!
