Why is Circuit Protection so important? ⬇️

1️⃣ Protection against electric shock
RCBOs continuously monitor current flow and disconnect the supply within milliseconds if an earth leakage fault is detected. This helps protect occupants from potentially dangerous touch voltages while maintaining compliance with modern wiring regulations.

2️⃣ Protection against electrical fires
Overloads, short circuits and damaged cabling can generate excessive heat that may lead to fire. Modern protection devices, including AFDDs, can detect hazardous arc faults that traditional breakers may not identify, helping to reduce fire risk before ignition occurs.

3️⃣ Protection against overvoltages
Sensitive electronics such as smart home systems, EV chargers, heat pumps and broadband equipment can be vulnerable to voltage spikes. Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) help divert these overvoltages away from connected equipment, reducing the risk of damage and downtime.

4️⃣ Improved circuit reliability
Individual RCBO protection ensures that a fault on one circuit only affects that circuit, rather than disconnecting large sections of the installation. This reduces nuisance tripping and makes fault-finding quicker and more efficient.

5️⃣ Support for renewable technologies
Solar PV, battery storage and emerging vehicle-to-home (V2H) systems introduce bidirectional power flow and more complex operating conditions. Appropriately specified circuit protection helps ensure these technologies operate safely and reliably within the installation.
