🐌 When did you last check how fast your website loads?

Open it on your phone, on mobile data, and count the seconds.
Over 3 and you're losing customers before they see what you do — and Google quietly drops you down the results too.

💬 Tell me your loading time in the comments — genuinely curious how everyone's getting on.

👉 Or drop your link and I'll run a free speed test and tell you, in plain English, what's slowing it down. No charge, no pitch.

🔁 Know someone whose site crawls? Tag them — might save them a few customers.

🔍 Post 4 in our buyer-education series.

Quick test. Google "joiner Glasgow southside" or "emergency plumber near me" right now. Scroll the first page.

How many Facebook business pages do you see? Usually zero.

⚠️ For trades and small businesses that rely on new customers — not just word-of-mouth — that's the bit Facebook quietly doesn't do. It's not built to show up when someone googles you. Your website is.

✅ Four things a website does that a page can't — plus the real £299 Year-1 maths — in the post.

🧾 Post 3 in the buyer-education series.

You've got two website quotes in front of you. One says £299. The other says £600. The cheap one wins, right?

Not always. By the end of Year 1, the £299 quote often costs more.

⚠️ Once you add the mandatory care plan, the per-update content charges, the business-email add-on, and the bits billed separately, the headline £299 can quietly land at

£1,139 in Year 1. A £600 quote with all-inclusive £20/month hosting comes in at £840.

✅ The 10 questions to ask before you sign anything are in the post — worth saving for the next time you're comparing quotes.

Post 2 of the series 📝

If you've ever been quoted £299 or £999 for a website, the build price is almost never the whole bill 🧾

The mandatory monthly fee — usually hidden on a separate page — quietly turns that £999 quote into £1,239 across Year 1.

This post is the maths 🧮

Where to find the hidden monthly fee, why it's there, and the single question that turns any quote into a like-for-like comparison.

Last week's post (on what "bespoke" actually means in 2026) covered the four buyer questions to ask any builder. This one zooms in on the monthly fee question specifically.

£840 to get the website sorted properly 👋

Built for local trades and small businesses — plasterers, joiners, gardeners, dog groomers, beauticians and the rest.

If you're running things off your phone - Facebook posts between jobs - this is for you!

Have you been seeing sky-high quotes for £2k+ and putting it off, or you've been "meaning to sort it" for a year, this is how you get it done 💪

It's a real website (not just a page), it gets you on Google so people can find you, and customers can message you without picking up the phone.

It doesn't break, loads fast, and I look after it for the whole first year.

Year 2 is £20/month if you want me to keep running it. No surprise renewal, no being stuck.

Want a free mockup of what your site could look like before you commit to anything? Give me a shout!

When someone says they'll build you a "bespoke" website, what does that actually mean in 2026? 🤔

Four very different things sit under that one word — and three of them aren't what most people think when they hear it.

I've started writing down what I've learned about how small businesses are getting websites built right now: what "bespoke" really means in each tier, what each one costs, and the four questions worth asking before you pay anyone a deposit. ✍️

This is the first one. More coming on the monthly-fee question and the Year-1 maths.

I’ve been working on a series of posts and guides to make websites a bit less confusing for small business owners 👋

A lot of the questions I get are completely fair:

Do I actually need a website?
Why are some sites £299 and others £2,000?
What am I paying monthly for?
What happens if I want to leave?

The first proper case study is now live: KAP Joinery in Glasgow.

Paul came in with a gold-and-black flyer he already liked, and I turned that into a full website with a quote form, review system, cleaned-up logo, business email, and fast hosting on AWS.

Slightly nerdy behind the scenes, but that’s where the good stuff happens 😅
