Tarka Revisited - just published! Written by Ian Parsons, published Pelagic Publishing with cover illustration by me. This was a very special commission and it’s inspired by my wanderings along the River Itchen.
One hundred years after Tarka, one hundred years of change, change for Otters, their rivers and us. How have Otters fared in those ten decades? How are they doing today? This book takes us on a journey through those one hundred years, a rollercoaster century for the Otter.

Gliding into the weekend with a white-tailed eagle. I first saw these magnificent birds on the Isle of Mull. I’ve since seen them on Skye and a little closer to home - on the Isle of Wight. I’m lucky enough to have met a few of the folk involved in the reintroductions there, managed by and Tomorrow, I’ll share the full illustration I’ve been developing...

Here it is. I’m delighted to share the first look at the RSPB 2027 Family Organiser. The cover features the flock of curlew I first sketched on holiday last summer at Loch Crinan in Argyll. One early morning they flew over our house and I drew them simply as a response to that moment and that landscape. It’s brilliant that it resonated with the RSPB and it’s a reminder to follow the ideas that feel meaningful to me, even if they seem small or personal.
Inside, each month highlights a different British bird and wild place. It’s designed to be both useful and uplifting, bringing a little nature into your everyday planning.
It’s available to preorder now, will be published in August, and is sold in support of and their vital conservation work. I hope it inspires all the families who choose this organiser for the year ahead.
In the meantime, I’m planning content for the 2028 Organiser!

Lobster, sand eels and seaweed. This is a detail from my new illustration - Otter at Staffin Harbour, Isle of Skye. (Along with a few of the hand painted textures woven in.)
Lobsters always remind me of a quote by the Irish artist, Louis Le Brocquy which I’ve kept safe over the years… “I think of us as inhabiting a tiny corner of reality, perceiving what we can, rather like lobsters in a pool, with their sensitive antennae waving this way and that. But what can they really tell, down there in the water, about land and cities, or the everlasting night of the stars?”
I think he’s pointing to the limits of human perception in a wonderfully humble, slightly comic way. But as an artist, he’s hinting that art is one of the few ways we stretch those antennae a little further to feel our way around. It’s a gentle challenge to human arrogance - and an invitation to curiosity.

Heronry towards Duntrune Castle, Argyll. It’s now available as an any occasion greetings card in my shop. If you’re like me and find visualisation techniques helpful during stressful moments - this is the place I take myself to… Kayaking on a gentle tide along the edge of Crinan Loch, with Atlantic oak trees lining the peninsula.
