Next time you're adding an app, before you hit Install, take 2 minutes to “research the app” with these 6 quick checks 👇 (they’ll save you a lot of hassle later).
1. Do you actually need it?
Fewer apps = fewer risks. If you won’t use it much, skip it.
2. Who made it?
Check the developer name. Look for the official publisher, not a copycat with a similar logo.
3. What does it claim to do?
Read the description and recent reviews. If people complain about crashes, weird pop-ups, or “not what it promised” — walk away.
4. What permissions should it need?
A travel app needing location makes sense. A torch app needing location… not so much.
5. What permissions does it actually ask for?
Compare what you expect vs what it demands (photos, contacts, mic, full network access). If it’s excessive, pick an alternative.
6. Where is it available?
Stick to Google Play / Apple App Store. If the developer wants you to download it “from our website,” ask: why isn’t it in the official store?
✅ Bonus tip: always check the Privacy/App Privacy section—“No details provided” is a big red flag.
