We’re excited to introduce our latest innovation: the GEW Air Blast Cooler. Designed to complement our industry-leading UV curing systems, the cooler is a simple, low-energy, closed loop system featuring an air-cooled heat exchanger that uses ambient air to remove heat. It provides efficient, low maintenance cooling without water loss, contamination risk and avoids the use of regulated refrigerants (F gases), which face new EU restrictions in Europe from January 1, 2027.

Most importantly, Air Blast Coolers typically consume around 50% less energy than chillers because they eliminate the need for compressors.

Air Blast Coolers can be configured in tandem, to provide cooling capacity at 20kW, 38kW or 56kW. They are standalone refrigeration units that can be ducted to atmosphere. The master unit consists of an axial fan, heat exchanger, filter, pump, expansion vessel, fill tank and control cabinet. Slave units consist of an axial fan, heat exchanger and filter.

With the recent appointment of Jan Jonissek to enhance the GEW sales team in Germany, and to support industry stalwart Bernd Prattl, business goes from strength to strength for GEW all across the D-A-CH region. As Sales Manager, Jan focuses on northern Germany from his office base near Hamburg. He brings improved geographical coverage in the region, to support Bernd and the existing team at GEW D-A-CH, who are based in the south. Jan's appointment is an investment in growth, as the demand for GEW technology across Germany, Austria and Switzerland has never been stronger.

Bernd, Geschäftsführer at GEW D-A-CH, has been with the company for over 16 years and knows the UV curing industry inside out. He has built the business to become a leader in the field, in a region where there is an abundance of would-be competitors. Together with his team, he has even more ambitious plans for the future, as he explains: “I am already looking forward to the next 16 years at GEW... Jan has joined us at the perfect time, as we have seen rapid growth in the sheetfed offset market following our partnership with a leading German press manufacturer, alongside increasing interest in our industrial solutions, including ExciRay excimer mattification systems and OxyGuard nitrogen inerting technology.”

Robert Rae, Managing Director at GEW, adds a comment: “I'm delighted that Bernd has reaffirmed his long-term commitment to GEW and to our customers throughout the D-A-CH region. His experience, technical knowledge and relationships are invaluable, and Jan's appointment gives us even greater capacity to support our continued growth.

“At GEW, we're investing in the future of the D-A-CH market, strengthening our local presence and continuing to build on the relationships that have made the region such an important part of our business.”

The entire history of standards, laws, directives, rules and regulations spans from early societal customs all the way to today’s increasingly complex and rapidly expanding global body of legislation. All of which evolved over time to maintain order, fairness and safety in growing populations.

When regulations become overly burdensome, they create unquantifiable legal risks, forcing organizations to prioritize survival over innovation, driving up compliance costs, and incentivizing risk-aversion. The combined impact on society and business is not necessarily a net positive.

We are now witnessing the real-time unintended consequences of blind compliance, regulatory over-reach and regulatory capture. While regulation will always be vital to ensure safety, environmental protection and fair trade, businesses and industries must proactively advocate for a more balanced approach.

Attend this webinar - ‘Rule by Whim: Unintended Consequences of Vague and Misguided Regulatory Policy’ - to learn why it is important to investigate and increasingly challenge the regulatory process and its rules as well as the assumptions and narratives underlying much of current policy.

UV hot melt has been a viable technology for around 40 years, but many industries are only now becoming aware of the benefits, particularly as rising energy costs compel converters to review their production processes. For businesses with rubber-based hot melts, or water-borne or solvent-borne processes, UV hot melt offers a wide range of benefits that these technologies cannot compete with, such as:

• No explosion risk
• No scope 1 emissions
• Lower cost of operation
• Reduced scope 3 emissions
• Reduced energy requirements
• Increased operator health and safety
• Reduced capital equipment investment
• Less floor space, less scrap, less make-ready
• Complies with all-electric sustainability targets
• Environmentally friendly alternative to many solvent PSAs
• No carriers to flash-off, incinerate, or release to atmosphere
• Reduced shipping weight, shipping frequency, storage space
• No thermal ovens, oxidisers, afterburners, emissions permits
• Reduced Scope 2 emissions due to lower energy requirements
• More robust end-use properties compared to water/rubber PSAs

Our DoseGuard Laboratory Unit offers the perfect solution for converters with multiple presses, where standardisation of the UV curing process is critical. The DoseGuard Laboratory Unit offers a fast, simple and accurate method to measure the UV output of any GEW UV Arc or LED cassette across its entire width under standard conditions. It allows rapid analysis of UV cassettes from any GEW UV system manufactured since 2000, and is the perfect quality control tool for any pressroom with multiple GEW UV equipped machines.

Whether you are running our energy-efficient AeroLED2 or LeoLED2 systems, or using our conventional E2C and E4C mercury arc lamps, DoseGuard gives you the exact data you need.

How this helps:

• You can benchmark and calibrate cassettes across different machinery, to ensure uniformity.

• You will know exactly when a cassette needs maintenance or replacement parts, before it impacts a production run.

• Whether you run Arc or LED, or both together, DoseGuard ensures your UV equipment is always operating at peak efficiency.
