Why coworking meetups are more valuable than most people think.

Most networking events are one hour of small talk and business cards.

This is different.

Last week, I hosted a You2Lize community meetup. And one of the people who joined was Pauline Pater • Keynote spreker & coach, founder of OWN THE ROOM, who helps people own their story and present with impact.

We got talking. She shared her expertise and I got really inspired about how to apply stronger storytelling to my own business.

Because most of my time I’m advocating for real change. Against rigid office mandates and management by attendance instead of results.

To do that well, I need to tell that story with power and conviction.

Without that coworking day, this opportunity would have walked right past me. But being in the same room made all the difference.

We organized this in just 3 days, and honestly, we’re still amazed by how it turned out 🤯

Yesterday, we brought together a group of people in Amsterdam for a full day of coworking, learning, and connecting.

By the end of the day, people were leaving with clearer strategies, fresh ideas, valuable feedback, and new connections they simply wouldn’t have found working alone.

That’s the magic of spending a full day together.

No awkward networking. No rehearsed elevator pitches. Just people from different industries working side by side, sharing experiences, knowledge, and perspectives.

Together with adsadriaandekker, we merged our networks and hosted the day at StartDock - Coworking space in Amsterdam, Rotterdam & Utrecht 💛 Singel. A beautiful spot along the canals with meeting rooms, phone booths, a communal lunch, a rooftop terrace, and after-work drinks. The kind of place where conversations keep going long after the work is done 🙂‍↕️

Throughout the day, ideas were challenged, stories refined, strategies sharpened, and collaborations sparked. Real conversations. Real feedback. Real progress.

This is exactly why a full coworking day feels different from a traditional networking event. You go deeper. You learn from people outside your usual circle. And you leave with more than business cards—you leave with genuine connections and tangible growth.

Biggest remote work flex? You don’t have to put your life on hold.

And no, it is not about sitting on a beach with a laptop all day. That is not the reality for most remote workers.

In all honesty, it is a lot less glamorous.

Most days it involves video calls that could have been emails, remote work cafés with bad Wi-Fi, catching deadlines and a lot of self-discipline and planning. No one is handing you structure. You have to build it yourself.

But what makes it all worth it is simple.

You do not have to put your life on hold.

You can be there for the people you love when they need you. Go to a doctor’s appointment without burning PTO. Spend a few months living somewhere completely different without making excuses or asking for permission.

And that is not a small thing.

Because right now, 95% of the workforce cannot do any of that. They plan their lives around their work. Not the other way around. And slowly, quietly, they miss out on things they cannot get back.

Time with family. Being present for the moments that matter. Exploring the life they actually want to live.

Time is the only resource that does not replenish. Spend it wisely.

To close out Mental Health Awareness Month, wrote something worth reading. 💜

As a remote recruitment specialist placing South African professionals with businesses in the US and UK, she has seen firsthand what global hiring does for people. It lets them build thriving careers without leaving everything behind, stay close to family and remain rooted in the communities they love.

Her conclusion is one we deeply resonate with at You2Lize.

People want successful careers. They just do not want to sacrifice everything else for it anymore. They want an identity outside of work. And that shift is powerful. Businesses that take it seriously will attract and retain the best people. The ones that do not will keep wondering why talent keeps walking out the door.
