Nobody warns you about this part of running a business. Finally walked the dog at 10pm last night because the whole day was client chaos. This is the not so glamorous part of entrepreneurship that doesn't make the highlight reel.

Sometimes the most unexpected paths lead to the most inspiring conversations.

A little backstoryā€¦ I run workshops for business owners who want to use Xero. Often that means migrating from another system. Sure, there are apps for that but sometimes you need a real human being (because tech doesnā€™t always play nice).

So Iā€™ve been working with a company who specialise in this. What started as a straightforward collaboration grew into genuine friendship with one of their teamā€¦ and then this weekend, somehow, I found myself chatting with their CEO.

Now, this guy runs businesses in 180 countries with a team of 120 people. Impressive, right? But hereā€™s the thing, thatā€™s not what struck me most.

We ended up talking about family, food, culture, cricket, Guinness (yes really šŸŗ) and even swapped family photos. What stood out wasnā€™t his scale, but his humility. The way he spoke about his people, Iā€™d bet he knows each of them personally.

It reminded me: leadership isnā€™t measured in titles or team size. Itā€™s about connection, humanity, and remembering that people matter.

This isn't a post to brag or name drop, I am simply grateful for the reminder- you know who you are šŸ˜œ

I met with a building & fencing contractor at the request of the lovely team at FPS Accountants.

Their directors have been getting more and more frustrated with Sage- it just isnā€™t doing what they need anymore and CIS is adding more complexity to their existing system. FPS thought of me (apparently Iā€™m now the ā€œXero Ladyā€ šŸ™Œ) to chat through whether switching to Xero could be the right move.

No pressure, no commitment- just an honest conversation about options.

If itā€™s the right fit, it could lead to a migration, a bookkeeping workshop, and ongoing support ā€” just like the work we did recently with another FM company

And yes- I brought along my Pure Roasters to-go coffee. Builders get diggers, I get caffeine.

There is a valid reason for having Christmas decorations out in September.
(I havenā€™t lost my mind ā€” yet šŸŽ„šŸ˜‚).

I took a break from number crunching to photograph Christmas stock for a clientā€¦ and it got me thinking šŸ¤”:

šŸ‘‰ What are the perks that come with your business?

For me, a big one is coffee ā˜• (having specialist blends delivered to my door = life-changing).
Then thereā€™s water bottles, cleaners, tradesmen, builders, tech help from geniuses who are definitely taking over the worldā€¦ and yes, a few accountants too.

And the list is growing. On the lookout for a wine merchant šŸ· (sorry coffee client, but that oneā€™s going to tie for the no.1 spot).

Sometimes itā€™s the people and small gestures that make the biggest difference in business- and in life.
