A couple more Cyrus in this week, PSXR's and PSXR 2's, one not powering on, the other not having variable mode functioning.

Couple of faults on the non V2 model, the dreaded Rifa X2 cap had let go, one of the pass FET's had given up. While the board was out, full recap with proper quality replacements. The V2 version seems someone had dropped the unit backwards, virtually cut the DC umbilical in two, apparently chap was cleaning the unit, pulled out the xlr (but still plugged it) the phone went he turned round and knocked the V2 backwards down the side of the Harth, dented the back panel. Luckily the mains cable pulled away.

Anyway both now back to fully up to speed and better than factory specification now. Although the V2 does look like a Lebanese troop carrier that's been been in service to long, to quote a good friend' Its a wee bit battered'

So it is now mine a deal was struck on one of our refurnished and upgraded PSXR's

So "TC" as it is now officially tagged is going to be my test bed for extracted some much lower noise and fast transient current recovery ideas.

I know Ducan B has illustrated the the differences between a PSXR & PSXR 2 being just a couple of clip on ferrites and upping of the main storage tanks to 10KuF but this time using Sanwha's .

Cyrus up next, odd fault indeed, unit when switch on goes straight in power on mode (no start up sequence) and the volume lights are stuck at odd positions!

After a deep dive into this Cyrus 8vs2 found a lot of brown staining on capacitors and regular heat sinks, plus underside of bottom plate. The +15 volt rail 'missing' due to a blown dual npn transistor @ T400 along with its side kick @ T401. Also on the display board two smt caps gone complete dry.

Power amp stage all good

Removed complete board assembly, and check out various capacitors over 60% were bad with five of them completely shot, so a thorough deep clean of the board and full re cap with quality components.

Cyrus circuits boards are not the best to work on imho, had a couple of through hole repairs tp perform, despite being extra cautious.

now waiting for the smt parts to arrive.

Another interesting piece of audio in the lab recently an EAM Labs 302 power amplifier for general check over and inspection. The unit was protesting in an overly buzzy / humming manner when plugged in mains. After a deep visual and measurement investigation found left hand channel running very hot, checked bias slightly off @ 24mV. Reset to 5.5mV ran for 3 hours to fully bring chassis upto to temprature spec. All good button up and ran for another coupe of hours. Interesting twist on a protection circuit with this design as well very well thought out imho

Interesting equipment in the lab recently, a Thrax Teres Stereo MK 2 power amplifier, speaker binding post snapped off. Lovely inside layout, transformer coupled with single-ended tube (6H6) input stage via a phase splitting separate transformer. Neat implementation, quality components, just more work than expected due to rear panel mounted circuit board. Removed broken binding post. Replacements on order due to obsolete Furutech items.

Good evening folks, apologies for the lack of content recently we have been somewhat busy!

We have just finished a rather superb example of an Arcam A18 FMJ in the black, this has received a complete recap, speaker relay replacement, thorough clean & service, uprated capacitors, plus a couple of other improvements. This Arcam A18 is looking & sounding top notch again.
We have been very particular when acquiring these FMJ models in that they are in first class cosmetic condition.

Audioshaman has four of these A18's in superb condition which we offer for sale with a remote, power cable and manuals, some have original boxes as well.

Sometimes a review arrives that captures exactly what we’re about.

Justin found us through Google and Facebook. He bought a refurbished Arcam A32 FMJ Integrated Amplifier — a modestly priced pre-loved piece, not a flagship. And this is what he had to say:
