OPEN CALL - Calling all Cambridge creatives
The CamCreatives Art Show returns for the 2027 Cambridge Arts Festival, and we’d like to see what you’ve been making.

The festival runs from Monday 8 to Friday 19 February 2027, and we’ll once again have exclusive use of a showroom in the Grand Arcade, in the middle of town. It’s free to visit. Thanks, as ever, to the team at Cambridge BID for making it possible.

Whether you work in visual art, craft, digital design, photography, jewellery, sculpture, animation or something we haven’t thought of, we want your work on the wall – or the plinth, or the table.

Two ways to take part
1. Submit your work in the usual way
Anything you’ve made, any medium, no theme. This is the main show and it’s how most people take part.

2. Take on Cover Versions!
For 2027 we have a themed strand running inside the show, with a challenge attached and two prizes funded by Cambridge BID. Entirely optional.

You could submit work for both paths, but there’s a limit of 3 pieces of work for review whether you take the first path, the second path, or do both.

Cover Versions
So what is Cover Versions? For 2027 it’s an opportunity to visualise the sounds of the 1970s.
 The challenge is simple: take a 1970s album and reinterpret its LP sleeve.

Choosing your record. You can choose your own.
A 1970s LP that means something to you.

You can let us choose for you.
Tell us the sort of music you like and we’ll send you the album title and artist, with a link if that’s useful.

The overall winning entry receives £250 plus £50 for the selected “let us choose for you” route.

Prizes are funded by Cambridge BID.

OPEN CALL: d**e zine
we're so excited to be opening submissions for our first ever d**e zine! inspired by the history of zines in amplifying marginalised voices, we hope to construct a physical space where we can celebrate our community.

The first issue will focus on the concept of 'tattoos' and 'permanence! please feel free to interpret the theme as broadly as you wish.

we welcome poetry, thought pieces, creative writing, academic writing, photography, painting, illustration, and beyond. there are no strict regulations on style or format.

Two shows celebrating the life of Julia Ball open this weekend.

Openspace & are both showing works by Julia to coincide with the launch of a new book - The Colours Between - The Life and Work of Julia Ball 1930 - 2025.
At Openspace Cambridge there'll be a rare chance to see a selection of Julia Ball's large paintings from private collections.

The Old Fire Engine House, Ely will show new discoveries from Julia's remaining collection, a final chance to purchase small treasures trom her estate.

The new book will be available to buy from both venues.

Festive exhibition opportunity - Cambridge Station!

Location: Public exhibition boards, Cambridge Train Station (3 boards, each with 4 sides)

Live: Early November 2026 – early January 2027

Cambridge BID are presenting a festive exhibition with a range of photos of Cambridge during winter/festiveseason.

Cambridge BID would like to invite CamCreatives to share photos of their work (any medium of work is welcome) which features or is inspired by the city during winter. They will be included in the exhibition, alongside other photography and info about events in the city during Christmas 2026.

How to apply:
-Please submit your work as a high-res digital file (guidelines: JPEG, 300dpi)
-Please include your name (as you wish to be credited), and a brief blurb (25-30 words) about your piece of work.

-Email: [email protected] (please send via wetransfer or similar, due to file size)

-Deadline: 23rd October. You will be contacted to confirm if your work will feature in the exhibition.

Join us for a full afternoon of creative workshops for young people aged 11-18, co-designed by Wysing's Creative Youth Council.

>> Introduction to DJing with DJ Boss Lady

Sessions: 12.15 - 1.30pm, 1.45 - 3pm, 3.30 - 4.45pm.

A fun, hands-on introduction to DJing for beginners.

Participants will learn the basics of DJ equipment, test different music styles, and try beat matching and mixing tracks.

Session times: 12.15 - 1.30pm, 2 - 3.15pm + 3.45 - 5pm.

Join us for a demonstration and casual Q+A on the artistry of make-up; play along and express yourself through image as we chat, and experiment with different products within an open and welcoming space.

>> Ink & Print: From Sketch to Fabric with Davinia Clarke.
Session times: Drop-in between 12 - 5pm.

Join Davinia Clarke for a hands-on workshop where you'll transform your drawings into bold prints on fabric using playful analogue printmaking techniques. Experiment with repeat patterns, playful textures and layering create personalised designs for T-shirts, tote bags or homeware.

>> Make a Mascot for Wysing with Louise Ashcroft.
Session times: Drop-in between 12 - 5pm.

If Wysing was a character what would it look like? Dream up a character made from the things we love, value and believe in. Make, stitch, stick and move as you bring your mascot to life as a mixed-media puppet.

>>Ceramics workshop with 2026-27 residency artist Roo Dhissou.
Session times: 12.15 - 1.15pm, 1.30 - 2.30pm, 2.50 - 3.50pm + 4 - 5pm.

FORWARD>> Not long now until the CDS Autumn Exhibition opens at the Pitt Building in Cambridge. Our artists have completed their submissions of artwork and are now busy doing final framing and labelling in preparation for handing-in day.

It's so exciting to see what amazing work everyone has been producing, so do plan your visit. We'll be open from 10am to 4pm every day from Sunday 25th October until Saturday 31st October. Admission is free and most work is for sale, so make sure not to miss it!

FORWARD >> On Saturday October 24 10am-5pm in the main mall at the Grand Arcade, Cambridge, the Trash Chic 50% off charity sale will take place.

Known for selling one-of-a-kind vintage, preloved and upcycled clothing, Trash Chic's founder, Jane Horwood, made the decision to close the brand last month following her own diagnosis with secondary breast cancer. I've known (and worked with) Jane over a number of years and this is devastating news.

But in typical positive Jane style, she's decided to sell her remaining stock and donate the proceeds to Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT) to support cancer services and help build the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital. Organised by Jane's friend Alice Ryan, it will also help raise awareness of metastatic oreast cancer.

With every piece on sale sourced personally by Jane, a former fashion and graphic designer with an eye for cool and confidence-boosting clothing, shoppers can expect to find everything from faux furs and sequin kimonos to slogan tees and camo trousers.

Do please come along to the sale - bag a bargain, inject some joy into your wardrobe and, at the same time, support a great cause.

New Chances - The art of collaboration with Adam Bridgland.

Adam Bridgland makes bold, brightly coloured work about the things we hold on to: seaside breaks, coach trips and the small rituals of British life.

His work hangs in the V&A and the British Museum.

It also turns up in projects for companies such as YouTube, Soho House and Ace Hotel.

So which is the real work? Both, it turns out.

Adam will talk about how commissions, partnerships and working with industry have fed back into his own practice instead of pulling against it. He'll also show how someone else's brief can shake loose ideas you'd never have found on your own.
It's an honest look at what collaboration gives, what it asks of you and what it has taught him along the way.
