Our Service Desk Manager, Rachel, has a big challenge coming up. 💪

On 1st November, Rachel will be taking on a HYROX race alongside her race partner, a goal they set themselves earlier this year to improve their fitness following her race partner’s breast cancer surgery and treatment.

After months of training, race day is nearly here.

Rachel is racing in Race for Impact to raise money for its Animal Welfare Fund, which supports organisations working to tackle factory farming and improve animal welfare worldwide.

We’re very proud to be supporting Rachel and will be cheering her on from Excellence IT! 👏

Three new faces join the Excellence IT team 👋

We’re really pleased to welcome Tom, Kieran and Luke to the team.

Tom joins us as an IT Technician, bringing plenty of enthusiasm for the industry and currently working towards CompTIA, Cisco, and Microsoft qualifications.

Kieran joins as an IT Engineer, with previous experience working with Microsoft servers and Azure, as well as broader IT infrastructure.

Luke joins us as an IT & Cyber Technician, working across both our helpdesk and cyber security. He also brings a First-Class degree in Computer Security and was named Cyber Student of the Year in 2025! 🎓

When we became employee-owned in 2024, it was about protecting the future of Excellence IT, the culture and values we’ve built over the past 24 years, and keeping the business and skilled technical jobs rooted in Wales.

Greg brings experience across the MSP and Learning & Development sectors, as well as first-hand experience of working within an employee-owned business.

🚨 Microsoft Planner users 🚨

Microsoft Planner is now available directly within Outlook, bringing your personal tasks and shared plans alongside your email and calendar.

As a team that uses Planner ourselves, this is a welcome change. Being able to quickly check tasks and manage work without constantly switching between different apps or browser tabs should make day-to-day use that little bit easier!

You can find Planner in the Apps section on the left-hand side of Microsoft Outlook.

And don't forget to 📌 Planner to the sidebar for easy access!

⚠️ A quick security heads-up for businesses using WeChat

Security researchers have recently demonstrated a vulnerability that could allow an attacker to take over a WeChat account simply by making a call to someone already in their contacts.

The person receiving the call didn't need to answer or interact with their phone for the attack to work.

Tencent has since taken action to mitigate the vulnerability, and there are currently no reported attacks using it.

We know many UK businesses communicate with suppliers, manufacturers and partners overseas, where WeChat may form part of day-to-day communication. If that's you, we'd recommend making sure WeChat is kept up to date on any devices where it's used.
