I am delighted to announce our acquisition by Online Systems as of 30th April 2021.

Greg Morton the Managing Director of Online Systems is a personal friend of mine and has been for more than 20 years, both sharing a passion for rugby and a likeminded approach to business in corporate telecommunications. I have worked alongside Online Systems sharing their expertise and support for many years and watched the business grow into Cumbria’s largest independent IT and communications services provider, with additional offices in South West Scotland and the North East of England. Their acquisition of Whitethorn Telecom facilitates their expansion beyond the South Lakes and into The Dales and M62 corridor, while offering Whitethorn Telecom customers more products, new services and greater levels of support.
I shall be staying with the business and very much look forward to being a part of the Online team.

At Whitethorn Telecom we are not now, nor ever have been one of those companies who bother their customers with 'courtesy calls' to see how things are! Just felt compelled to share this from one of our customers. Sometimes, you can't even make it up:

Hi Jon

As you are aware we have had to set up a new BT broadband account because they were unable to change the account name. Upshot is we are getting a new contract for broadband, we have been sent a new router, and will be allocated a new IP address.

Am I right in thinking that will need some change to our phone systems (SIPS) due to the IP address?

BT are being brilliant as usual. They have set up a new account complete with username that is spelled wrong, password that does not work, and even set Catherine’s security questions for her (helpfully choosing the wrong place of birth – no idea what). We have no idea what the new IP address is and when the changeover will occur, and cannot log in to find out. They won’t give us the correct answers to the security questions for security reasons.

So this may well be the last communication from me!

We've recently done some work at Newby Hall in Ripon and we asked our main contact there for a referral. This is her unedited response and we felt compelled to share...

Eleanor Sharp at Newby Estate Office says ‘’Since installing the main system at the house, Whitethorn Telecom have continued to come up with new ideas and solutions for us at the Hall, and for several of the businesses occupying offices at Newby Stables on the estate. We've been putting in Wireless Access Points (WAPs) these last few weeks. With the proliferation of iPads and other hand held devices all requiring internet access, we've successfully installed WAPs to extend the range of the wireless connection at Skipton Golf Club, Skipton Rugby Club, Napiers Restaurant and Padgetts Motorcycles in Batley.

An American photographer on vacation was inside a church in Oldham taking photographs when he noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read '£10,000 per call'.

The American, being intrigued, asked a priest who was strolling by what the telephone was used for. The priest replied that it was a direct line to heaven and that for £10,000 you could talk to God. The American thanked the priest and went along his way.

Next stop was in Manchester... There, at a very large cathedral, he saw the same golden telephone with the same sign under it. He wondered if this was the same kind of telephone he saw in Oldham and he asked a nearby nun what its purpose was. She told him that it was a direct line to heaven and that for £10,000 he could talk to God.

'O.K., thank you,' said the American.

He then travelled to Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, Rochdale and Littleborough. In every church he saw the same golden telephone with the same '£10,000 per call' sign under it. The American, upon leaving Lancashire decided to travel to Yorkshire to see if Yorkshiremen had the same phone.

He arrived in Todmorden, and again, in the first church he entered, there was the same golden telephone, but this time the sign under it read '50 pence per call.'

The American was surprised so he asked the priest about the sign. 'Father, I've travelled all over Lancashire and I've seen this same golden telephone in many churches. I'm told that it is a direct line to heaven, but in Lancashire the price was £10,000 per call. Why is it so cheap here?'

The priest smiled and answered, 'You're in Yorkshire now, son. It's a local call.'
