Downfall (Der Untergang), 2004 is easily one of the best films I've ever seen, and the famous source of the famous subtitle-meme of Hi**er flying off the handle at a trio of his generals. This is a really informative essay on how accurate the film is and tl;dr, the answer is "very".

I can’t recommend this enough. It’s a bit passé to praise the cast (all of which is deserved), but do try to see it on a cinema screen: I felt every leaf, every freckle, every speck of plaster was important.

It’s a flawed way to learn a language — basically gamifying it — but to be fair, I can now at least recognise more than two French tenses, and sorta-kinda two cases in German.

A friend invited me along to see this easy-to-overlook, lowkey, psychological thriller: keep your eyes and ears open for the details; so much is communicated in little wrinkles of facial expression, offhand comments, and background noises.

As an aside, mainstream cinema is in a deplorable state because it's pandering to such a painfully low bar for nuance — and rarely even doing that well. But in contrast, I've seen some absolutely banging films in the last several years, most of which, like Lurker, are only getting a criminally limited release on the arthouse circuit.

Finished this last night, written by my former MA Typo/Graphics lecturer, Russ Bestley. I actually learned a lot about both the mechanics and politics of print before the desktop publishing revolution (which was fought and won just about the time i was a graphics undergrad).
