5 ways you’re hurting your business’ social media: 🪦
1. Posting too much personal stuff (on your feed)
While it’s definitely good to have some personal aspects of yourself on your business account, definitely limit the feed posts to about once a month. For stories though, feel free to update them daily with new personal insights! People expect more personal things on stories, whereas your feed should be treated more like your portfolio of work.
2. Never checking your DM requests
This is something that I’m also guilty of! They don’t always show up right away and so you can go for days without knowing you’ve got someone trying to get into contact with you! Especially as people use social media as a way to contact you about their issues, it can lead to a bad customer experience if you don’t reply.
3. Ignoring your analytics
Even if you’re not particularly looking to grow your following or have loads of likes, your analytics will give you insight into what posts have previously performed well with your audience. You can then use this to adjust your future content plans and experiment with different formats and topics!
4. Not using all the features
Platforms are always releasing new features, so it’s always worth having a play around with things such as “on this day” on TikTok or the new Instagram individual photo caption feature! It keeps things interesting for your audience (and you!).
5. Being overly serious or casual
This is definitely more personal opinion than the rest of these, but it’s important that you try to balance your brand with professionalism. It can make it hard for customisers to connect with you if your brand voice seems too robotic. Likewise, referring to customers as “hun” or “darling” can make some feel uncomfortable. Simultaneously, it might be something that your ideal customer likes, so it’s important to do market research into your customers regardless!
