A local physiotherapist we built a website for emailed on Friday. She has eight people on her waiting list. First time that has happened.

She has not run a campaign to get there. New patients find her through her own site and the professional listing that points back to it, while she gets on with treating people.

Her words: "I now have 8 on my waiting list. A first like this. No real active marketing, so mostly website I believe. So I'm pleased I made the investment in a new website."

A website is not a brochure you pay for once and forget about. Built properly it keeps bringing people to your door while you do the actual job.

If yours has gone quiet, that is a fixable problem.

Really pleased with this one.

Sarah came to me having already paid for a website elsewhere. Nearly two years on she still didn't have one, and had more or less accepted the money was gone.

What got me though was her contact form. It had been broken for years. People were filling it in and it was going absolutely nowhere. She only found out because one bloke was determined enough to track her down another way.

No idea how much work went missing in that time. You wouldn't know, would you. Nothing tells you.

Anyway, she's live now at ensohr.co.uk and the form works, which feels like the least it should do.

Most local business owners don't realise what a marketing hire actually costs. Here's the reality.

Salary: £30-35k
Employer's NI: £4k
Pension: £1k
Software and tools: £2-3k
Training: £1-2k
Recruitment fees: £3-5k
Management time: a lot
That's £45k+
All before they've even filmed you doing a TikTok dance. And that's if they're any good.
What if they talked a great game in the interview but can't actually deliver?
Three months in. £10k down. Back to square one.

Most of the businesses I work with don't actually need a full-time marketer. They just need someone to crack on with it. Get the website right. Keep the socials ticking. Make sure leads are actually coming in. Without having to think about it every five minutes.

That's basically why I have a business. I run North Bear Media as a bolt-on marketing department. Small team. From £350 a month. No contracts. And nobody has to learn a TikTok dance, unless you really want to!
