It's well known that as women, we often put ourselves last on our own list.
For most women, perimenopause doesn't tend to announce itself.
(Unless you're plunged into surgical or medical menopause when your hormones drop off a cliff, overnight. 😢.)
It slowly appears, symptom by symptom, until suddenly you just don't feel like yourself anymore.
We don't put ourselves at the bottom of the list because we don't care about our health. It's often because there's always someone else or something that needs us more. Work, family, life.
The symptoms get pushed down, explained away, managed quietly in the background.
Until they can't be anymore.
There comes a point where the brain fog, the broken sleep, and the anxiety mean something has to change. There's a reason they tell you on a plane to put your own oxygen mask on first. And for so many of us, perimenopause is that moment.
That's when priorities shift.
And the questions start.
Where do we find the right support?
Can we afford it?
In the UK, we're fortunate to have the NHS. But navigating it isn't always easy. Appointments are short, often just 10 minutes, and perimenopause is anything but simple. There are ways we can help ourselves, though. By arriving with the evidence we need to tell our story clearly.
By tracking our symptoms, mood and impact on quality of life over time, we can turn months of lived experience into something a GP can actually work with.
We're building MenoVida to help. Because every woman deserves that support, not just those who can afford to go private.
A question we're often asked by investors is will women pay?
Our own research found that 77% of women were open to paying for the right app support. And according to research by Clearpay, women are already spending an average of £1,800 a year managing their symptoms. We are investing in our health. We're just not always getting the right support in return.
And that's exactly what MenoVida is built around. Not the technology. The outcome. Women getting the help they need, and GPs having what they need to give it.
That's why we're building the right way. With a health advisory board of specialist GPs and healthcare professionals. With 22 ambassadors who truly understand this space. With privacy and clinical credibility at the core from day one. And with a growing community of women who are done waiting for change.
We're building this with and for women like us. And we're just getting started.

PS. We had to share this photo of our founder Jo Mavridis, as it reminds us of Dr Nighat Arif's recent post about entering her villain era in perimenopause and admitting to swearing. 💫
🧡 Swearing, great therapy for so many things; do you find it helps?
