This week we’ve been surveying and quoting for a couple of larger jobs.

1. A new local school and social / refugee drop-in centre wants a FAST fibre connection, WiFi distribution around the 1500m² building, wireless security and CCTV, and a multi-room music and PA system, again without wires.

2. A large local house needs fibre + WiFi distribution, powerline network points for their home office and multiple TV points, security cameras and several large-screen TVs. We’ve also discussed smart home technology and home automation.

DID YOU KNOW…?

Many old routers can be turned into WiFi access points (APs) in order to extend the range of your existing wireless network WITHOUT buying any extra equipment!

If you have an old router lying around that’s surplus to requirements, consider running Ethernet from your main router to another point in your home and using your old router as a wireless access point. The antennae in routers are often superior to those found in range extenders, and as long as you have a spare power socket available this can often be the best and most cost-effective way to DRAMTICALLY extend the reach of your home (or shop/office) Wi-Fi signal, and eliminate dead zones.

Busy day coming up today…

Collecting our 4G rental router from a customer who needed it for a week due to issues with her ADSL connection (and organising a new, permanent 4G connection in its place).

Supplying and setting up a powerline extender kit for a client whose WiFi signal in the bedroom is intermittent, causing his POLEX TV system to drop out regularly. This’ll fix it for good.

Supplying / installing a mesh system at a large 3-storey villa on the Montgó, in order to provide full coverage throughout the house.

Also processing three new fibre connection applications!

EDIT: also ended up advising on a WiFi smart plug solution to control a hot tub in Javea from the UK, and setting up two smart TVs via WiFi.

TP-Link are the go-to brand name for WiFi accessories.

This WiFi-capable Powerline kit comes in two parts. One unit is plugged in near to your Internet router, and it is ideally connected to it via a standard ethernet network cable.

The other end is plugged in where you want your Wi-Fi to reach. The powerline system then uses your home’s internal electricity cables to transport your Wi-Fi signal to your chosen location, as if by magic!

If you have a WiFi ’dead spot’ in your home and don’t want to spend money on a mesh system, then this single-point WiFi range extender is exactly what you need! We’ve supplied HUNDREDS of these over the years. Simply download TP-Link’s ‘Tether’ app on your phone or tablet in order to set this product up quickly and easily to work with your existing Wi-Fi router.

Tip: plug the extender in near to your router during setup. Once setup is complete, unplug the extender and move it to a location roughly halfway between your router and where you want your Wi-Fi to reach. You can safely unplug this unit without losing its settings, and move it around to find the best spot!
