It’s time to introduce you to one of the people helping to keep Shipmondo running smoothly behind the scenes. Meet Mads, one of our Software Developers 💜

Mads joined our dev team a year ago, and today he’s a key part of maintaining and building the backbone of our platform. He works with integrations for everything from e-commerce systems like WooCommerce and PrestaShop to payment solutions and accounting systems ⚙️

Building integrations requires a high level of precision and patience. But for Mads, the real motivation comes when the code hits the real world.

”At my previous job, we built for a few large clients, where things moved a bit slower. At Shipmondo, thousands of customers are using the product every day. You always have to keep performance in mind – it needs to be fast, but it also needs to be built right. The instant feedback from users makes you really think about everything you do,” Mads explains.

Working with backend logic means ensuring everything flows smoothly for the end user, but it’s not a solo mission. Mads highlights the strong collaboration, dedication and great community within the tech team as some of the best things about working at Shipmondo 🙌🏼

And when he steps away from the keyboard, Mads keeps the same high energy. He’s an avid cyclist, logging around 150 km a week, loves rope climbing, and regularly swaps his commute for a 10 km run home from the office 🏃🏼‍♂️

Last week was all about health and well-being at Shipmondo! 🏋️‍♂️

After the summer holidays, we felt like it was time to refresh our habits and get some new inspiration for a healthier everyday life.

The week has been packed with fun activities – from delicious lunch bowls, sugar-free treats to daily competitions and a group workout 🫐

What has been very obvious this week is how impressive our colleagues truly are.

Here are some of the results from our daily competitions:
🪑Wall sit: Markus won by sitting for more than three minutes
🪵Plank: Khan and Mads had an epic plank-battle, both holding it for more than four minutes
💪🏼Push-ups: Khan impressed everyone with 62 push-ups in one minute
🌽Cornhole: Thursday was all about precision throwing, and the winner was Nick
🤸🏼Jump rope: Christine managed 116 skips in one minute

It has been a fantastic week of boosting energy and well-being has given us a great head start on good post-summer habits – and while we can’t promise everyone will stick to them forever, we definitely got the kickstart we needed for a healthier everyday life 💪

Air freight of lithium batteries just got easier 🔋

Do you sell electric toys, battery-powered garden tools or other electronics containing lithium batteries and ship them internationally?

Then you might know that air freight for batteries can feel like something that requires a Ph.D. But we’ve built the complexity into your familiar Shipmondo workflow.

When shipping lithium batteries or products containing lithium batteries by air, you need to provide additional information to meet IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

With Shipmondo, you can now:
🔋 Ship lithium batteries by air under IATA Section IB and Section II
📦 Provide the required dangerous goods information as part of your booking
🔌 Book your shipments directly in Shipmondo or via API
✈️ Ship with DHL Express, UPS and FedEx

This means you can manage lithium battery shipments alongside your other shipments in Shipmondo ⚡

And there’s more.

Some carriers may require you to provide specific shipping or customs documents with your shipment (not just when shipping lithium batteries). You can now upload your own documents in Shipmondo, such as a commercial invoice, certificate of origin, customs declaration, and more, whenever a specific document is required. This new opportunity is available on your own shipping agreements 🌍

Confession time: we’ve been sneaking around in your Shopify checkout for the last few months.

Not in a creepy way. But in a "let’s improve this and make that even better" kinda way.

Here’s what the improvements turned into:

✨ A refreshed look for delivery methods. Cleaner, simpler, and with the most important information first.

💸 Base shipping prices on the order amount AFTER discounts have been applied.

🚚 Customize delivery method titles and descriptions with Custom Display Templates, for example to highlight the last-mile carrier.

📦 Tell Parcel Lockers and Service Points apart in both your delivery methods and your shipping prices.

🏭 Set shipping prices for orders fulfilled from multiple warehouse locations. When enabled, Shipmondo returns one shipping price per delivery method, no matter how many locations the order is split across.

💵 Show delivery method prices in your customers' local currency, regardless of your store's default.

👨🏻‍💻 Automatically transfer Shopify's country-specific HS codes to customs declarations.

🌍 Standard checkout texts are now translated into 21 languages, making it even easier to expand into new markets.

And yes, It all plays nicely with Shopify Markets.

We’re finally building again! 🙌🏼👷

After months of standstill following the bankruptcy of our original contractor, we’re relieved to hear our construction site humming with activity again.

The delay came at a cost, but the expansion remains our biggest investment to date and an important part of Shipmondo’s future.
Fyens.dk spoke with Nicklas Nguyen and Tea Johansen about the unexpected setback, how we moved forward and our ambitions for Shipmondo’s next phase of growth.

Say hi to our newest addition to our Customer Success Team, Christine! 👋🏻

Christine has joined our freight team, where she has spent the last couple of months with onboarding to the Shipmondo way of helping our customers by her teammates Emma and Emina - and of course our Head of Customer Success Cecilie.

She has joined us on a sabbatical position - but who knows, maybe she’ll stay a little longer. One of our first hires for the Customer Success Team was Andy, who joined on the same terms seven years ago, but hasn’t left yet 😂

This is Christine’s third sabbatical year. While she has spent the other two years doing military service in the Danish military and traveling the world with a højskole, this third year she wants to gather some relevant experience, before she has to choose her next educational step.

“I love travelling, and on my højskole we went to New York, Hawaii, Japan, Indonesia and Australia over the course of three months. It was a really fun time, getting to know a lot of people and experiencing different cultures, which was really great”, she says.

In her considerations for choosing to apply for the job at Shipmondo, she really valued the possibility of talking to real people, helping them with complex support cases, where she has to get to the bottom of things, so she can give a complete answer and follow the case till the end.

“My start here has been great. First I thought I would’ve been laid down from tons of information, but the onboarding process has been really good and only given me the hunger to learn even more. I think the cases are very exciting, and it also appeals to me that the things we do and help with have an actual effect on our customer’s daily lives”, Christine tells.

But just because she’s gotten a full time job she isn’t done with travelling. Over the summer she’s going on a roadtrip through Germany to Bodensee with her family.

We’re bringing the happy news of the coming birth of yet another Shipmondo-baby! 🥰

This time it’s Emma from our Customer Success Team, who's going on maternity leave, and we’re actually all really excited for when she gives birth to her coming child.

Because Emma and her boyfriend has done something not all parents have the courage to do - they haven’t been told the baby’s gender yet 👀

So besides the usual excitement for one of our coworkers becoming a parent, there’s a little extra spice to this one.

Emma, we wish you a happy maternity leave and look forward to see you again with a little one in your arms 🙏🏼

So… We’d like to tell you a little story.

One that’s about a handful of hardworking people that you might not even know exist. Unless you’ve read our meet the team-posts? (Of course you have!)

They don’t make the flashy features that get the big ✨marketing campaigns✨

They go to work, they build, maintain, improve. And they do it again and again.
And they damn well deserve a shoutout. (Did we just write ‘damn well’? Yes. Yes we did.)

They deal with changing carrier APIs, shifting requirements, complex customs regulations, and services that appear to be simple from the outside (just add a new carrier service?) but are, in reality, a mix of development, maintenance, debugging, testing, and a fair amount of wizarding 🪄

Because carrier integrations are never “done.” They evolve continuously as carriers evolve, and keeping everything running smoothly while expanding the carrier product library is exactly what this team does every single day.

So here’s to our Carrier Dev Team! Jan P, Markus, and Jakob. The people turning shipping complexity into something that just works 👏🏼
