🇮🇸 Great week in Iceland 🇮🇸

This week, Mads Ditlevsen and David Start had the pleasure of spending time in Reykjavik together with NTI Iceland, meeting with many people from the local AEC industry.

Across the sessions - the LCA lunch briefing, hands-on training, and workshops with individual teams - it was great to see how many different roles showed up. From architects to company leadership, many joined the conversations.
One thing that stood out was the impact these in-person workshops can have when teams work with LCA in the context of their own projects. It helps everyone understand what the work actually involves and how climate considerations can influence design decisions early on.

LCA is still an emerging topic for many teams in Iceland, and there is a lot of interest in how to get started and build the right workflows. We hope the sessions helped make that first step a little clearer. We also had many great conversations with customers about how they are approaching Real-Time LCA internally and how they want to move forward.

And to finish the visit, we wrapped things up with dinner, good conversations, and a friendly game of darts. 🎯

Thank you to everyone who joined the sessions and shared their perspectives, and to NTI Ísland for the warm welcome. We’re excited to keep the dialogue going! 🙌🏽✨

🚀 New release is live, with some seriously impactful upgrades!

⚡ Project Overview is now lightning fast
All projects have been migrated to a modern backend with dramatic results. A user with access to 75 projects went from 48 seconds loading time to just 82 milliseconds (yes, that’s a 58,400% improvement 😉). This removes a major bottleneck, especially for our most active users, and ensures the platform scales smoothly as your portfolio grows.

🏗️ Revit Room materials now parsed
We now import Room Material Quantities from Revit: Floor Finish, Base Finish, and Ceiling Finish. This opens the door to a more complete and accurate material inventory, especially for interior fit-outs and early-phase estimates.

🇳🇴 Norwegian Lifetime Table
A custom Norwegian Lifetime Table, based on SINTEF anvisning 700.320, is now fully integrated and available for all Norwegian projects.

🔗 Shareable material URLs
You can now inspect any material directly via a library route, making it easy to share specific materials via URL. Perfect for collaboration, QA, and onboarding.

This release blends long-awaited fixes with powerful new features.
We’re excited to see how you’ll use them. As always, we’re listening, if you have any questions or feedback, you can go to our community or reach out directly.

🔧 Big news from Real-Time LCA: our latest release is here!

We’re excited to introduce a feature we’ve been working on for a while: the 3D Viewer is now live! ✨

This is a huge milestone that brings carbon transparency into focus, literally. With the 3D Viewer, you can now:
✅ Visualize exactly where in your building emissions are coming from.
✅ Understand hotspots and opportunities.
✅ Improve and document your climate footprint in a whole new, spatially rich way.

But that’s not all. 🚀 We’re now also supporting Speckle Nextgen Connectors for Revit, Rhino, and Archicad:
• Legacy connectors will still be supported for now, but new users will start directly on Nextgen connectors
• Over time, new features will transition exclusively to Nextgen.

And this is just the beginning. In the coming weeks, we’ll be adding even more functionality to the 3D Viewer, stay tuned! 😉

📢🇪🇺 European-focused webinar - Climate Impact in Building Legislation!

The future of building legislation in the EU is becoming clear: by 2028, all new buildings will need to report on their life-cycle global warming potential (GWP) under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), and threshold values will be introduced from 2030.

👉 Join us on October 7, 10:00–11:00 CET for a focused webinar where leading experts will clarify what this means for the construction industry:

• Bunthan IEA, Policy Officer at the European Commission, will outline the upcoming EU-wide life-cycle global warming potential (GWP) of new buildings.
• Helle Redder Momsen, Head of Secretariat at Nordic Sustainable Construction, will share insights from the Nordic region, including key learnings from similar legislation already implemented.
• Jakob Baggesen Klinkwort, Construction Architect at Dorte Mandrup, and Mads Ditlevsen, Sustainability Lead at Real-Time LCA, will share real-world examples of building LCA in the EU.

This is your chance to get clarity on what’s ahead and learn from those already putting policy into practice.

💚 Don’t miss it – register below!

🇮🇸 Iceland takes a big step in sustainable construction

Starting September 1, 2025, Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) became mandatory for all new building projects in Iceland. This represents a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to cut emissions in the construction industry, supporting its target of achieving a 43% reduction by 2030.

The new regulation builds on Nordic experiences and introduces a methodology to evaluate environmental impacts across the entire building lifecycle, consistently and transparently - also aligns with European standards (EN 15978). LCAs must now be submitted with building permit applications, covering all major life cycle phases, from material production to demolition.

This is an important step: regulations are moving quickly, and the construction industry has to adapt just as fast - this means making carbon assessments not just a “nice to have,” but a fundamental part of project delivery.

At Real-Time LCA - An NTI Technology, we welcome these changes. They bring clarity and accountability to the sector’s decarbonization. And yes, our platform is fully compliant with the new Icelandic regulations - we collaborate closely with Húsnæðis- og mannvirkjastofnun to ensure full compliance and alignment with these standards. ✅

Last week, the LCM 2025 Conference (Life Cycle Management) brought together academics, businesses, and public institutions in Palermo to discuss how life cycle thinking can move from global to local and shape decision-making.
The LCM conference series is one of the world’s leading sustainability forums, with a strong focus on practical solutions for bringing life cycle approaches into both strategy and operations.

Oliver Kusche, our chief environmental data officer, spent four days there, where he felt inspired by the community’s shared commitment to turning ideas into action, through better data, stronger collaboration, and more accessible tools.

Oliver shares: "These four intense days were filled with interesting presentations, scientific discussions, new impulses for collaboration and global harmonisation, and of course also a little bit of partying.
I’m super grateful to be part of the global LCA family - reconnecting with old companions and making new friends along the way. It was inspiring to meet so many talented colleagues - including Jane Anderson from ECO Platform, and UNEP colleagues Claudia Giacovelli and Archana Datta."

Thank you to the organisers for creating a valuable space for knowledge-sharing and collaboration! 🙌
