I’m not happy with a whole bunch of things involving Instagram and Facebook.

Starting with Marc Zuckerberg’s announcement that he wants to do without fact-checkers in the future and the use of user data to train generative AI models.
My own Instafeed used to be a friendly compilation of inspiring posts from friends, fellow artists and people I admire. Now every other post is a stupid reel from some disturbing film snippet or advert.

I’d rather be active on an independent platform where I’m not treated as a resource. I’ll think about that over the next week. I’ll be closing my Facebook account soon. I don’t know what I’ll do with Instagram yet. Are you active on other platforms? What are your experiences there?

Okay, it’s the last day of the year, time to look in the rear view mirror. It was a turbulent year and it seemed to me that the highs and lows were a little higher and a little lower than in previous years. I did a lot of great things, worked on great projects and developed new things. I experienced a lot, met old and new friends and colleagues and I am very grateful for that. I also had a lot of doubts and struggled with myself. I posted less here on Instagram this year, I just didn’t feel like it.
So a here wouldn’t be very meaningful. I think the tradition is nicer anyway.

A few illustrations from Yellowstone National Park for a story I drew and animated for Energiewinde, the German Online Magazine of .

The nature at National Park is so incomparably beautiful that US President Ulysses S. Grant placed the area under protection as early as 1872. He thus created the world’s first national park.
However, it was not about protecting animals and plants back then. Visitors wanted to see eagles, mighty bison and imposing wapiti deer. They didn’t want to be afraid of wolves and cougars when they fished for trout in the park’s rivers.
So the exterminated the . And caused an ecological disaster. Because without the most important predator in Yellowstone a chain reaction occurred and the park became deserted.
The story tells how the reintroduction of the wolves brought everything back into balance and how nature recovered. It shows the importance of and how much everything in is connected to everything else.

I drew this dialog picture for the 40th annual company meeting of . It shows the company’s vision and internal values as well as a successful customer journey in many small scenes. We did it at a somewhat athletic timing, but thanks to super productive meetings with the country managers and the teams of and it worked out great.

Für eine Nacht ist alles wieder lachs. Diese Woche treffen sich mehr als 130 ehemalige Kollegen von G+J Wirtschaftsmedien, 10 Jahre nachdem die letzte Ausgabe der Financial Times Deutschland erschienen ist. Ich finde es toll, dass so viele immer noch Kontakt halten und freue mich auf das Wiedersehen mit den alten Nasen.
