Stable temperatures. Fluctuating power. How can both happen?
In a multi-zone heating system, each SCR controller may deliver the right average power while its switching periods overlap with neighboring zones.
Consider four 10 kW zones at 50% duty cycle:
• Switching together: the combined load alternates between 0 and 40 kW.
• Staggering two pairs of zones: the combined load stays at approximately 20 kW.
• Both arrangements average 20 kW and consume 5 kWh over 15 minutes under these idealized conditions.
The key distinction: smoother short-term demand does not automatically mean lower energy consumption or lower demand charges.
Evaluate SCR load coordination across three time scales: electrical switching, process response, and the billing measurement interval. Verify coordination capability at the system level.
