has supported the launch of a new Smart Classroom at Bal Kalyan Secondary School in Lamjung, helping expand students' access to digital learning and modern technology.

Developed in collaboration with Huawei Nepal, the Chinese Embassy, Nepal's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Nepal Telecom, the classroom is equipped with computers, a laptop, printer, smart board, and other learning facilities.

During the handover, a live virtual demonstration connected the school with Huawei Tower in Kathmandu, showcasing how technology can help make learning more interactive and accessible.

What is the next generation of optical interconnects for AI infrastructure?

To answer this, we need a little industry background…

The rapid growth of computing power has led to a surge in interconnect demands. Electrical interconnects are approaching their physical limits, making optical interconnects the key to breaking through these bottlenecks.

So, why has Near-Packaged Optics (NPO) become the optimal choice at present?

AI training and inference impose nearly stringent requirements on power consumption and latency. Among the many paths in optical interconnects, traditional pluggable optical modules include Retimer chips, which have relatively high power consumption and latency. In contrast, Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) optical modules require advanced chip-level packaging, which brings high costs and difficult maintenance.

What are the core advantages the NPO approach delivers?

1. Lower Manufacturing Barriers:
The NPO approach eliminates the need for Retimer chips and co-packaging with ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit), reducing reliance on advanced co-packaging processes and large package substrates, while effectively mitigating yield risks.

2. Accelerated Time-to-Market:
The NPO approach leverages existing mature supply chains to enable rapid scaling and commercial deployment.

3. Simplified Operations and Maintenance:
The NPO approach addresses thermal management and fault isolation at the system design level, significantly reducing data center operational complexity and cost.

4. An Open Ecosystem Foundation:
Open and increasingly standardized interfaces can enable supply chain decoupling, breaking single-vendor lock-in and laying the groundwork for multi-vendor collaboration and industry-wide prosperity.
