Having an X-Ray machine is one thing. Knowing how to interpret the image is another.

For BGA, QFN and other components with hidden solder joints, X-Ray can reveal what visual inspection simply cannot.

But producing an image is only the first step.

A meaningful inspection still depends on what the inspector looks for, how abnormalities are judged, and which acceptance criteria are applied.

Why wear an ESD wrist strap when gloves are already being used?

Because they protect against different risks.

Gloves help reduce contamination and direct handling of the PCBA. A properly grounded ESD wrist strap is used to control static electricity from the human body before it can discharge into sensitive electronic components.

This matters because ESD damage is not always visible — and in some cases, the component may not fail immediately.

That’s why ESD protection is part of the manufacturing process, not just a workshop rule.

The right part number doesn’t always mean a component is ready for production.

Before components enter the SMT line, incoming inspection helps identify visible issues such as damaged leads, oxidation, contamination, package damage, or unusual markings.

Why check this early?

Because once a questionable component has been placed and soldered onto the PCB, a simple material issue can turn into rework, troubleshooting, or production delays.

Finding problems before assembly is simply a better place to deal with them.

Why does PCBA manufacturing require more than one type of inspection?

Because different defects show up in different ways.

A PCBA may pass a visual inspection but still have an electrical issue.
A board may have correct electrical connections but still fail when its actual function is tested.

That’s why relying on only one final inspection isn’t enough.

Throughout PCBA production, different inspection and testing methods can be used for different purposes:

• AOI helps identify visible assembly and soldering defects.
• ICT helps check electrical connections and component-level conditions.
• FCT verifies whether the assembled board performs its intended functions.
• In-process inspections help identify abnormalities before they continue into later production stages.

The goal isn’t simply to perform more tests.

The goal is to identify the right problems at the right stage and prevent them from becoming larger production or customer issues later.

Good PCBA quality starts long before final inspection.

During production, there are times when a board needs more than a routine check.

In this case, our engineers review the actual PCBA together, compare it with the production requirements, discuss what they see, and confirm the appropriate action before the process continues.

This kind of in-process engineering review matters because identifying an issue early can help avoid much larger problems later — including unnecessary rework, production delays, and quality inconsistencies moving into downstream processes.
